How to drill P80 pin holes!

"Tolerance stacking" begins with the pin holes. The way your build works out begins with the pin holes. The way the entire complex of internal parts works in your build depends on precise placement of your pin holes.

The jig is made of plastic, so it's not "error proof." A spinning metal drill bit will go through the red jig easily if it's off-track. The jig hole provides an "aiming spot." But, it will not prevent an errant hole. It's not actually a drill guide.

Finally got this edited and produced!

Great job. 👍🏻
Thanks!

I'm no MGB, but I gave it a shot! 🤭 Another spin on it from a relative noob who still remembers what we said in the Navy: "See one. Do one. Teach one."

I was gonna ask about the work station since opinions seem to be mixed, but I guess I got my answer! Glad I looked for this before I posted. Thanks Racer.

Great video! I now have my workstation & already have a footpad from my AR builds, so that's awesome. I do have a question:
My Dremel is a older model that was my Dad's. Will this work? I'm hoping to avoid the cost of a new Dremel if possible. (I can use the cost towards other parts ....in other words maybe more builds :D)

Thanks!

According to the listing for the Workstation on Amazon:

Compatible with dremel rotary tool models 100, 200, 275, 285, 300, 395, 398, 400, 800, 3000, 4000, 4200, 8100, 8200, 8220

It just occurred to me... Since I have a foot pedal... Would there be any problem (or reason not to) with starting the drill with the bit already INTO the jig guide hole. In other words, start the plunge until the bit contacts the frame, and THEN turn on the drill (with the foot pedal) and plunge the rest of the way?

Are the Dremel 631 Brad Point Bits the ones suggested by MGB to use?
Also, what oil did the OP use in the video?

Thanks for all the help!

I guess I could have listed what I used, eh? :)

For the 5/32" bit, I used the Dremel brad point kit:
Amazon product ASIN B000H7D3QE
View: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000H7D3QE/
For the 7/64" bit, I got this short shank brad bit (since Dremel doesn't make a 7/64 brad bit)
Amazon product ASIN B001HL8QTS

Oil is "Pew80 Magic Oil." ;)

Naaaa... just kidding. This:

I'm new here & to the P80 platform, but from the research I had done before starting my 1st AR lower milling, seems like there's a risk of the bit grabbling the jig if you start with the bit already in the pin hole.
What I had read/seen was that this would likely cause damage to the lower (or in this case to the jig)

I have it on good authority that CLP also works as a lube, if mineral oil isn't at hand.
