Yuge! Vets- get rated for all your disabilities

Great ! Let us know how it goes. Go to medical, complain about these issues. Get them documented and diagnosed. If using civilian Dr. get digital or copy for your records. Need to provide to VA as evidence.
So, should I do that AHEAD of my next appointment with VetCOMM, which is a month away (end of May)? Should I make an appointment at the VA to get checked (and get it on record)? Or should I file intent for a claim on my own ahead of my next VetComm appointment, which they're calling "pre-claim?" I don't want to screw the pooch here.

I just went ahead and submitted my "intent to file." So it's time-stamped now. :)

I also learned that tinnitus may be connected to migraines, even ocular migraines.

Again, many thanks to you @Michele! If this all works out, and I end up visiting my son out there... dinner's on me! 🥰

Getting medical stuff documented sooner than later is a good thing. Complain about the ear noise (that it started while in service, how/why) they may give you aids (this shows Dr agrees u have issue) to help mask it: sound device, pillow that makes noise, etc… if they want you too do/see XYZ, take it on and commit to it. Anything you can do to get “on the record” will force VA to make a diagnosis. They may send you to hearing test however, there is no way to test for tinnitus.

Check “my healthevet” a day or so after appointments- look at the notes check what the Dr. wrote about your appointment. If it’s not in your favor- keep at it, complain about it more…including if its interfering with your quality of life: sleep, headaches, blood pressure, anxiety, marital issues etc…

Also get any other issues sleep difficulties, high blood pressure etc… on the record so the VA will give you a DX for them for you as well. Stay with these, continue to bring them up at future appointments. This will force a DX for those as well.

Submitting the intent to file on your own is great, plus knowing how to log on VA.gov and find your way around is good. This will allow more time for important claim discovery & less time training you on using VA.gov during the preclaim appointment. Follow through with what ever plan the both of you come up with at the pre-claim assessment.

Vetcommm will ask u for your login to get on your myVA. It’s the only way they can do your claims etc….
If u are uncomfortable giving them that info, make two login passwords, one for your use and one just for your VetComm sessions.

They told me they don't do that. Instead they do a zoom meeting and guide you by looking at your screen.

Interesting, I just submitted a few claims last month via zoom. The claims specialist logged into my VA, finished filling out the EZ form I had started, uploaded all the evidence I sent him, added medpub review they have in hand. Curious how that’s done without them in your account. Both times I filed with them the claims person logged into my account and shared their screen to show me what they were doing. I might watch the live on Thursday and ask that question.

Nice to know

Just in case... how do I set up a 2nd login credential?

ChatGPT has all the answers framed out better than I could write it out 😊

To change your ID.me password and then revert it back to the old password, follow these steps:

1. Change Your Password:

  • Log in to your ID.me account with your current password.
  • Click on your profile icon or name in the top-right corner and select Account Settings.
  • In the Account Settings section, find the "Password" option and select "Change Password".
  • Enter your current password, then enter your new password and confirm it.
  • Save the new password.

2. Log Out:

  • After saving the new password, log out of your ID.me account.

3. Log In With the New Password:

  • Log back in with the new password you just set to confirm the change.

4. Revert Back to the Old Password:

  • Once logged in with the new password, go back to Account Settings.
  • Choose Change Password again.
  • Enter the new password as the "current password", then enter your old password as the new password and confirm it.
  • Save the changes, and you'll now be using your old password again.

5. Verify the Change:

  • You can log out and then log back in to confirm that your old password works.

Switching back and forth, although a PITA, is more comfortable than hoping VetComm doesn’t keep your login on file somewhere.

I'm almost 60 and I've been denying that my service caused any problems. Just like I answered No to any issues on my annual physical while in. Funny story, the Doc said they added one question to snag the people who answered No to everything. Are you menstrual cycles regular? That was before females where allowed to deploy so most of the squadron was male.

Thanks for the heads up. I think I will use them to see what they can do.

Pretty common. I’m sure they can help you. They’ve been in the streets here in San Diego helping homeless vets get what they deserve. Many older vets don’t know how to work the system with 0% get rated.

Watch the live show text while on to get a good discount. I will post a reminder on Thursday

I got "lucky" as the one physical thing I could do before the Navy that did not involve deep snow was semi competitive bicycle racing. I used to ride 50 to 100 miles a day. When I got out I found that the best I could do was maybe 1/2 mile, so i went to the VA and have been 60% for over 40 years.

Of course, if I'd have waited until Winter, I may have noticed the issues skiing, but there's less knee movement in skiing.

@Michele Hey, Chief, Do you have a duration guestimate on the livestream?
I need to schedule time off.

If you do not, I will just take two hours of sick time for "VA Stuff" :)
It’s approximately 1 hr. The 1st couple minutes is waiting around for people to join in on all the platforms.
You don’t have to watch / participate in the full show. Can join in anytime to ask questions and or get on “the discount list”.
Show is today at 1530 Pacific time
You tube live.

Live Q&A Thursday- zoom link

OH! That works out well for me, I had a conflicting appointment today.

I signed up for the free claim consult a day or so ago and never heard back. Maybe I will sign up again, just in case the form got lost in the ether.

Unfortunately there isn't a single fucking thing anyone can do about tinnitus. There are snake oil remedies out there and I have tried them all. Nothing works. ENTs can't treat it and hearing specialists with PhDs will gladly sell you expensive hearing aids that create background noise. They don't help either. Even if Uncle Sam pays for them. There is no cure or remedy.

I made a special trip to Johns Hopkins to be examined by one of the most prominent ENTs in the country. He told me what I already had learned. If you have hearing damage you are SOL. It can't be fixed or undone.

Sometimes ringing in the ears isn't chronic tinnitus caused by inner ear damage due to jet noise, gunfire, machinery, etc. It can be caused by high blood pressure or poor circulation. That's a different and possibly more serious problem worth looking into.

Sounds crazy, but meditation helps. You have to train your brain to ignore the nonstop whistling, ringing, clicks, etc.

There is research going on with using stem cells to try and regenerate the damage to the inner ear. Regrowing the cilia. Not approved on humans. Yet.
