It's amazing to me that the items I (and millions like me) legally and peacefully own (and legal in most of the country) and take for granted would land me in prison in NY.

This was a raid based on ONE đź‘»gun!

The funniest part is the "500+" rounds of ammunition! OMG! OMG! That's 1 - 2 range trips for me.

Also... why were the feds involved? Homeland Security?!?? It's not a violation of federal law to make your own unserialized firearms.
 
Amateur. That's a load out for a day at the range here.

Staying in NY when you value your 2A rights is a conundrum. If there is an overwhelming reason for you to stay, then you probably don't need to own firearms. Sooner or later they will make what you have illegal and come for you.

On another forum, a former NY resident saw the writing on the wall when NY passed AW registration. He dutifully complied. Later got to thinking more critically and decided now is a good time to move. He packed up and left NY, for, if memory serves, Montana. Later, the PO dutifully forwarded a notice from NYPD that the AW he registered is now deemed illegal and to surrender it immediately. He replies in the negative. Finds out later SWAT raided his former residence. I wonder if they felt the symbolic middle finger being given from Montana? :unsure:

So all of this reminds me of the poem by Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller about the rise of Nazi Germany. For those unfamiliar...

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist. (Substitute black rifle owner for socialist)

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist. (Substitute semi auto rifle for trade unionist)

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew. (Substitute hand gun for Jew)

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me. (Substitute any type firearm for "me")

Morale of the story is, things have progressively gotten worse in NY and other Dem enclave states for decades with no hint of changing. So...before you find yourself in the pastor's position...

It's one of those TIFWIW things. He posted it about himself. The thread was about making the decision to move if you lived in a Commie state. He was relating his personal experience and recommended without a doubt to rent the U-Haul and do it.

He also mentioned the stark difference there is between North Eastern states where things are generally forbidden unless expressly permitted, where out West, things are permitted unless expressly forbidden.

People in the NE have been brainwashed to think in a VERY different way than the rest of the country. They are quite literally AFRAID of Freedom. Freedom frightens them. They are not comfortable with it, even after they move to a Free state.

We have a lot of NE transplants here. And my way of life and thinking leaves them aghast. Truly aghast. It's inconceivable to them. They don't come out and say it, but they definitely imply that there is some element of criminality (in their minds) to my way of life and outlook on our Natural Rights. When I explain that none of my guns are "registered," because there is no such thing, I get skeptical stares. LOL!

Yep. Other incredulous responses:

You don't need a license?
Is it legal to have that many guns/ammo?
Is it registered? (They can't comprehend that registration just tells them where to look when the confiscation starts. It solves no crimes)
But, but, you have to have a background check to buy a gun. (Like that will magically thwart all crime. Can't respond when you point out you have the same crime as before there were background checks.)
Also shocked when I tell them as a CWP holder, I am exempt from the background check in SC.

Well... as a CWP (I object to the term "permit"), you've ALREADY had your background check, eh?

Though, the same does not apply in my state. The only advantage of the CCW license here is that we are exempt from the waiting period for gun purchases. We still have to fill out a 4473 and be cleared.

Yes, same here except no waiting period. Seems they tried that in other states before and found it had no benefit together with rationing to one gun per month. They did away with that years ago.
SLED runs all the permit holders in the database through NICS at least once a year. So even if you don't buy anything, you still get checked. And as the stats show, the CWP folks keep their nose cleaner than the average bear.

I've commented numerous times (probably FB) where someone in a "community" group will comment something to the effect of: "We don't need assault weapons! All we need is our hunting rifles!" to which I'll comment: "Once they've gathered all of the ARs and AKs they will coming for your dangerous 'sniper rifle' next..." :rolleyes:

I came from RI over 20yrs ago and it was this small bastion of sensibility stuck between MA and CT. We ALWAYS had a large pro-gun contingent show up at congressional committee meetings and so on--standing/squeezing room only. ;) And legislation rarely got passed. I don't know what happened after I left, but the sickness spread from Provalone to the rest of the state. :( I mean, these are people that elected Patsy Kennedy with absolutely NO redeeming qualities merely because of his name and father (Ted).

Thinking back to how many laws I probably broke when I would travel by car to FL with a loaded pistol next to me... :)

Exactly. I laugh at the 500 rounds in context of arsenal. I'll blow through half that at least in a weekly range outing and that's being conservative.

First, you are perhaps unwittingly confirming their position by agreeing with the notion of the existence of "assault weapons" and that ARs and AKs fit that imagined category.

If someone says that to me, I ask them (with a totally serious face), "What is an 'assault weapon'? I'm a firearms expert and I don't know what that is. There is no such term in the firearms lexicon."

Why would you agree that ARs and AKs fit that politically-motivated and fabricated yet nebulous definition? Sure enough, in typical tyrannical progressive fashion, they've moved the goal posts and broadened the definition to include ALL semi-auto firearms.

I do agree, and made the same prediction about "sniper rifles" several years ago. I am absolutely certain that will happen. They will come after "precision" gun parts such as barrels, bipods, and even optics. "Nobody needs a weapon of war sniper rifle that can kill a person at 1000 yards."

We should be careful about co-opting their language and narrative, which will lead to their ultimate goal: total disarmament.

Just because you own a guitar, doesn't mean you can play it.

There's a lot of factors that need to be considered to hit at that long of a range. And that's before you factor in skill.
So, if you took the average deer hunter who thinks he knows how to shoot, and fed him all the data needed like range, wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity, mirage, how the light will affect his perception of what he sees in the scope, and plopped him down behind a precision rifle capable of 1/2 MOA, our fearless nimrod does not have even a 1 MOA hold. Be lucky to have a 2 MOA hold. And when you zoom the scope up past 10X, it's hard to keep the reticule still. Your heartbeat alone is going to make it jump a good bit. Remember, no benchrest, he's shooting from a field position.

So, our theoretical 1/2 MOA rifle, under perfect conditions and fired from a machine rest would have a theoretical 5" group at 1000 yds.
But a shooter with a 1 MOA hold is going to have a theoretical 10" group. 2 MOA hold, 20" group. And that's before any of the above mentioned factors are considered. Mirage alone is a factor that has a class devoted to reading it in long range shooting clinics.

Enough rambling. Suffice to say that actually hitting a man size target at 1000 yds. is quite difficult even when you can see the target clearly and all the above factors are in your favor.

Just because you own a guitar, doesn't mean you can play it.

While true, NONE of that matters when it comes to whether owning precision rifles falls under our 2A Rights or any argument to ban "sniper rifles."

It doesn't matter how hard it "really is" to hit targets at long distances with any type of rifle.... Just as it doesn't matter how long it takes to complete a P80 pistol - one of the primary arguments by the antis. How often have we all laughed at the claim that "anyone without training or knowledge can make one of these đź‘»guns in 30 minutes?"

It. Doesn't. Matter. What the fuck does the TIME it takes to accomplish have to do with it?!?? It doesn't matter AT ALL whether it takes three minutes or three days.

If we argue in favor of our Right to PMFs, the LAST thing we should do is counter their argument with, "That's not true! It takes much longer to make a PMF!" We're arguing on THEIR TERMS. And that will prove to be FATAL.... TO US. We need to be smart and stop that shit.

Our Constitutional Rights are subject neither to the democratic process nor to arguments grounded in social utility.

Accordingly, we should not be arguing for our Constitutional Rights on the false basis being used by our opposition. Why are we playing by THEIR rules? Why are we using THEIR language? It only helps them and undermines our own Freedom.
