I was blessed enough to get a slammin' (under $150) deal on one of these after I purchased the first one a few weeks ago (and is on my FN Reflex). So I have the Echelon which would be a great place to run it on, a G19 clone (but sadly has the RMR cut slide and I don't want to run an adapter plate).

So ya'll think the Echelon would be the right unit (as I was initially thinking of) or....

on the rifle side, the thought occurred to me that the 1894 quick-handling Marlin .44 mag rifle might be an interesting mount for it.

Thoughts?

Nobody offering their opinion which should get the prize? I did put up a poll- Hep a brudda out! Thanks!

Yeah baybee! I’m thinking that little unit may be the right addition to the 1894! Much more a low rider RDS than other RDS/Scope optics (I’ve been considering a scope or Leupold Freedom RDS which is more bulbous than the Osight SE) . And very quick to acquire on target. I think it will not take away from the 1894’s nimble handling.

Welp, with one vote each (thanks!!), I took a more pragmatic approach and installed it on the Echelon. I still need a mount for the 1894, and the pistol was ready to receive. hehe. Installed the OSIGHT, Bore-sighted and ready to rock:

I'm not entirely thrilled with the gaps fore and aft of the OSIGHT on the slide (granted, it IS a Compact RDS) but it's ok. I rather like the size of it vs a bigger RDS...at least it's not hanging off the slide on either side.

That laser bore-sight kit works so fabulous with the RDS, and that sucker is dialed-in for about 40 feet indoors. Will of course fine-tune it at the range as-needed.... that green bore sight laser is dead-center of the Red RDS 32 MOA ring.

THIS is rare, usually it is the other way around. How about a pic of the top of the slide with the RDS mounted so we can see the thigh gaps...

Honestly I think it's due to the VIS system they use to accommodate multiple footprints within the same slide cut, only varying the pin locations. OSIGHT SE uses the RMSc/K mount pattern. I'll grab a pic of the deck shot later on. It's not egregious.

Which bore-sight kit do you use?
This one below, with the green laser. I have NOT used it with a .22 bore, nor a 12ga yet; but as for 9mm stuff it works wonderfully. The arbors work as designed, and I think some those that have negative reports may be causing their own issues (common sense on too tight or too loose goes a long way), and there also may have been some product refinement along the way. That said, I'm happy so far. Maybe some day I'll get a speedy/trendy one (lol!); but as long as it works as designed, I see no need to....yet. Maybe my foray into the lower and upper limits of caliber may demand something else. Time will tell.

The optic cover should fit perfectly.
The cover that was removed from the area did in fact fit perfectly. Again, and you may not be familiar with the Echelon's VIS system, but it's designed to fit a number of foot prints, by way of using (included) different pin sets and arranging them on the deck to fit said RDS- RMR, Docter, RMSc, etc. So I think my initial comment is likely unfounded, and I'm good with it. Now then, say on my FN Reflex, it's milled SPECIFICALLY for RMSc, and fits accordingly. Maybe Lewi, or one of the others here with an Echelon can weigh-in.

There certainly is ZERO issue with the mount itself, nor any exposure to slide internals whatsoever. It fits like a glove, no gaps underneath the deck, or wobble whatsoever. Very snug. So in retrospect, I think the extra gaps fore and aft, are for accommodating those other footprints. I will say I like this smaller unit on here vs a bigger more bulbous unit.

Why green instead of red?
Red is cheaper ;)

I have an Echelon that came with the Gear Up package and IIRC the included (cheap) Crimson Trace 1500 red dot also has a gap fore and aft.

Thanks NavyVette! And there's our answer.

Btw- I knew Bongo Lewi had an Echelon and wasn’t sure who else did here. Imo it so outclasses Glock and the original G design for what it is.

Agree. So do a few others. Walther PDP in particular.

There are a number of handguns now that are superior to the Glock. Not that I have any complaint with Glock or its design. It's just that the industry has caught up and innovated where Glock has stuck to its knitting.

On the topic of red vs green: Red is preferred indoors by professionals. Especially in a CQB situation or when it's dark. Green is way more visible in daylight. Some gun owners just have a personal preference for one or the other. Nothing wrong with that. Why red and green? Evolution. The binocular vision we share with monkeys and apes adapted to be sensitive to red/green/blue light. Other animals do not share our trichromatic color vision. We have better eyesight, especially in terms of color. They have better sniffers and hearing.
