That comes to about $US 45k. Insurance deemed the cars a total loss. There are two cases discussed in this video.

Road debris punched through the flimsy shield (shown in video) under the car and put a 15-mm dent in the battery casing. Even though there were no subsequent malfunctions, they totaled the car. The cost of replacing the battery is higher than the new car purchase price.
