Looks pretty good. I rec'd an email that says they have a Mac iOS version now. I'm going to do the 30 day free trial.

What is it? Gun inventory program?

I use 2nd Amendment Firearms Database, which I really like.

Found it. Oy... it's an annual subscription. And not cheap! $150 / year for an unlimited firearms version. $100 / year for up to 100 firearms. The basic version, at $40 / year only allows 25 firearms.

The app I use is a one-time purchase. But they don't have an iOS version.

That's been my issue. There's no f-ing way I'm headed back to PC land and Windows. I have been pining for a solution I can run on my Mac and MacBook for quite a while.

I downloaded the trial. Seems very capable, has all the features you would want for keeping track of your "inventory" and a firearms history. This disaster in western NC and eastern TN inspired me to make sure I have accurate and secure record keeping for insurance or if I am hit by a bus. The cost is no big deal. 12 bucks a month for unlimited - and peace of mind.

The subscription model also assures you get the latest versions and whatever patches or upgrades the author creates for as long as you use it.

I've put 10 guns in it. So far, so good!

My paranoia itches just a little when I think of adding all of my gun info into a 3rd party database.

It's not a 3rd party database, if it's on your own PC. In the case of the 2AFDB (that I use), you can even run it off a thumb drive. The entire program runs in its own folder. There is no connection whatsoever to a 3rd party.

That said, GunTrack also comes in a "cloud" version. I would agree with you on that version. No way I'd use the cloud version.

It just occurred to me that in order to insure my guns, I had to submit detailed information for each gun to a 3rd party.... the insurance company.

I didn't. I just gave them a total amount I wanted to insure for. Their only requirement is that I be able to prove what I had if I submit a claim, so I have purchase records of all my FFL items and most of my PMF components along with photos of the FFL item and PMFs.

Depended on the insurer. Some accept photos and/or video. Others want serial numbers. Yet others, you are buying a 'blanket' policy that is for a predetermined, limited amount.

Assuming it's very similar in function to the program I'm using, I'll just say that it adds a new facet to the hobby. I like being able to reference my gun inventory, ammo inventory, expenses (accessories and parts), and range trips.

Agree. I'm hoping to also be better able to consider what I should let go. I may get to tracking range performance but Im more interested in managing the assets and their value right now. Knowing more precisely what I have and what it's worth.

The Guntracker app keeps the data on your machine. As does the mobile version. It's encrypted. Forget your password and your data is utterly unrecoverable. The web/browser version does that as well but stores the data in the cloud. I dont use that version. I want to have physical control of the database.

my biggest weakness is keeping track of ammo.

I've been thinking about finding a laser engraver to put some serial numbers on my 80% builds, just to have an identifier on them in case of theft.
