Ford's response to the above article saying, yeah, we applied for a patent, but we don't intend to use it...OK, then why apply for a patent?

Because then they can get royalties from whomever does use it.

Next thing you know, people's cars are going to have them "Red Flagged" after they go off on some slowpoke driver.

This is already happening in the newest GM vehicles that report the driving dynamics of the car to a third party who sells the data to insurance companies. Things like "hard braking" and "rapid acceleration" are red flagged.
If you live inside the perimeter of a city like Atlanta, you're fucked.

I was more implying VERBAL going off as in "GET THE F*CK OUT OF THE WAY, C*CKS*CKER!!!" :)

Someone asked me about one of those "good-driver" dongles and if they should put it on their car. "HELL NO! Do you want your rates to go up?" "How is that?" "One panic stop and I guarantee they will go up..."

I can't believe anyone falls for that shit... or is willing to be monitored while driving. I put that in the same category as putting a "smart speaker" inside your home. You're bugging your own house!

Our kids brought-in one of those Alexa speakers to the house. It promptly was unplugged.

I occasionally drive toll expressways here in FL. I have an "E-Pass" that lets me roll on through and the toll is deducted from my account which I keep a min. $20 balance in. When it gets to $10, it will automatically replenish another $20 to the acct. If I drove the expressways more (as in daily commuting) I would keep a higher balance.

My only regret with E-pass is not getting one sooner than a year or two after they were intoduced (and free). Every car in the fleet has one now. It used to be nice to drive by the dregs waiting in line to pay the toll but now they have closed many toll booths and it is "pay by plate"--ie: they send you a bill. I can only imagine how much revenue is lost but then again, they are saving $ by not staffing the toll booths.

Anyhow, back on topic, I often wonder when some legislator is going to get the bright idea to start collecting speeding fines via toll overhead structure. When I use the expressway once/twice a month I am "going with the flow" which is about 80. Limit is 65/70...
