I've been shooting steel-case lately but decided to shoot some Blazer Brass 9mm I got for free via trade. Shot about 120rds at last Saturday's "Action Pistol" at my range. There were many 9mm shooters and at one particular stage most cases had been kicked up onto the apron in a convenient pile. So I grabbed an empty box and put a couple handfuls into it, probably 100 cases. What I'm going to do with it, I don't know...
Back when 9mm wasn't as prevalent and ammo was more expensive, I bought a Lee Pro 1000 to reload 9mm. I'm talking like 30yrs ago. At the time, it was about $.04 a round to reload and maybe $0.15 each a box of 50 FMJ. At the range I'd be careful to gather up EVERY case of mine after every mag. I had them organized "once fired" "twice fired" etc. like you do with rifle rounds. And it seemed like EVERYONE gathered their brass to reload so there were rarely any "extra" cases. Nothing was more maddening than not being able to find the 50th case from a box!
I was so adamant about picking up my brass that my kids got me a metal detector for my birthday one year. Made all the difference in the world but still had to give some up to the brass gods. I usually find those a year later full of mud and tarnished beyond belief.
