I don't think there's a Darwin Award thread, so I thought I might start one. If any folks have some contributions, please post.

I didn't know which forum topic to put it under, so I selected the forum topic for jokes. But, depending on one's perspective and upbringing, I guess one could consider it a tutorial.

The whole video, I'm saying aloud... "no... no... no.... NOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
The sad part is he probably could have put the fire out with a thick piece of cardboard or thick plastic. A soon as you cut oxygen, it dies quick. And, of course another pot or lid would work perfect.

The upside is that folks who don't know about mixing water in an oil fire will see the results in this video. I found it quite startling how much of an explosion there was.

Click on the small text link in the third post above that video. Look for the tiny words just below the words "Not Found". You'll see another similar video with some idiot cooking in a small pan. She lights a room of people on fire! If someone knows what she added to that pan, I am curious. I think it was cooking oil.

I don't know why the thumbnail doesn't work in that link. Perhaps Twitter has an option to allow users to not allow videos to be inserted into web pages similar to Youtube. I tried inserting the video multiple ways and it just wouldn't insert the thumbnail correctly and I ain't computer challenged. ;)

A fire requires: Heat, fuel, oxygen.... remove any of those three, the fire dies. smother it or cover it.

Halon extinguishers worked so well because it instantly removed oxygen.

Halon extinguishers are used in racing, but have been replaced with FE-36 due to the ban on Halon.

There are still a couple of Halon systems in a couple of cars here that can be recharged by a recycler,
but the newer systems use FE-36. The only systems you can buy now with Halon are ones that have
been refilled by a recycler.

The lady in the first video below does a decent job telling how things work with FE-36 and the removal of oxygen.
An interesting demo is at 1:36 minutes in the video showing how effective just a small amount is at putting
out a row of lit candles and how quickly FE-36 it evaporates.

Thanks!! I never kept-up on the extinguisher situation when they banned Halon. Not familiar with the FE-36 whatsoever.

A belly Flop on an Orca Killer Whale's back.

I thought for a moment the video had a happier ending than that as I didn't see the swimmer and figured he became a snack... :D Just remember that orcas EAT great white sharks... ;)

When the kids were young we had annual passes to the attractions in Orlando (ie: Disneyworld, SeaWorld, LegoLand, etc.) Usually just one park per year but that was often enough. We've been in the pilot's cab of the monorail (not allowed anymore since a pilot got backed into by another MR and killed) and have been drenched by Shamu more than once among other things no longer allowed or done because of wokeness. The ending of the orca shows was due to a trainer being dragged under by her ponytail and drowned. They painted it as "deliberate" but I think the ponytail accidentally got caught on a tooth. Then came the "Blackfish" fakeumentary and that was it... :(

The Orca has had a longstanding history of not harming or attacking humans in the wild. Sadly, that is changing and they are becoming more militant and dangerous. Even those in captivity…when one of them harms a human they get relegated to a back tank until they die. They are very smart, social creatures, and an apex predator. To think that these theme parks have broken laws by calling their entities “research” so they are allowed to keep the creatures, and then use them for sport and profit always ends up backfiring. Some knowing authorities are saying that this shift in behaviors is partial because these orca are pissed-off.

There are also other human variables that can cause attacks like these in the theme parks Z I watched one video last week in which an orca completely body-slammed a human that was riding another orca.

In their native element, they and sperm whales pretty much rule the roost. And are very smart when it come to commercial fishing boats off the Alaska coast. I knew a skipper (RIP) who once skippered the Ballad, and he called me to pray that the orca would leave the vicinity bc they were running off the halibut. Happily they did leave, but it did impact their yearly catch.
