As an added benefit to Ford, their self driving cars will also be self repossessing as well. Miss a payment, and Ford Motor Credit will send subtle reminders in the form of disabling the A/C and stereo, or making it play an unpleasant sound. Become 60 days in arrears and they can command the car to simply drive away and repo itself.

Sorry, Homie don't play dat. Ain't havin' no MF Skynet controlled car.

How anyone would buy such a car is beyond me. Even if I was paying cash (no chance of "repossession" due to delinquency of payments)... No way I'd buy a car they can turn on or off... or take away for ANY reason. And I'm sure they could come up with some other reasons.

"Oh, our records show you didn't get your 23rd COVID booster... No car for you!"

People DESERVE the tyranny they allow.

As it is a lot of the new tech on vehicles is subject to potential hacking/terrorist attack. Self driving without a person in the driver seat takes things to a new level. The Netflix movie Leave the World Behind depicts Tesla's effectively being weaponized when hacked and driven/crashed to blog highways. Assuming it could be done now with a hack to ignore that no one is in the car - clearly with what Ford proposes the stock OS would permit it.

Not mentioning the everyday errors like the owner delinquent on his payments has the same name as you and the dude at the data center in India selects the wrong one.

It's not even that. I'm not worried about them making a "mistake." I don't like that they even have the option to "make a mistake." I'm not willing to buy something I don't have 100% control over.

I was talking about cars.

I could definitely live without my silly phone. I use it VERY little.

But last time I checked... my phone can't move itself from my possession back to the phone store.

And I didn't pay $30k - $40k++ for my phone.

I don't see my phone as a high priced asset. Yeah, I know a car isn't REALLY an asset. But a phone is pocket change by comparison. If they turn it off, they'd be doing me a favor! LOL!

I guess what I'm trying to say is I don't give a fuck about my phone. But I do give a fuck about my car. I'm not buying a car that a 3rd party can turn off or take from me.

I think that pretty soon all the new cars will at least have a tracking and disabling feature with built in gov't backdoor for LE use...if they don't already. To avoid this, you will have to own a car old enough to not have this embedded technology, until they mandate all cars over X years old must be taken off the road, like they do in Japan.

No way that will happen here. As much as we are a gun culture, we are a car culture. Vintage cars are a BIG deal here. We like our cars.

It would be like telling cowboys they can't ride horses anymore.

For those who are "prepping" for the "apocalypse," a vintage back-up car may be a part of the equation, eh?

That was even a plot element in the novel "Unintended Consequences"...
Though to be able to withstand an EMP, you would either have to revert to old school point ignition, or have spare electronics stored in a Faraday bag for installation afterward.

Look at the positive…if your vehicle gets stolen it can drive itself home.
Psych ! šŸ˜‚
Or use the remote self-destruct trigger.

Thief (driving away): "Yahooo! I just lifted this sweet ride..." Ka-BOOM!

I knew a guy that was a prepper who lived out of state in Lubbock, TX. His BOV was a 70s F600 6WD "camper" with I think a 6-71 Detroit Diesel. Mechanical pump and control and mechanical fuel shutoff. No electronics involved in running the engine. I think he had rigged an air starter although some old diesel tractors will start with a shotgun blank...
