On my ship, our department's senior enlisted man was a Chief (E-7). He was the proverbial "old salt" and was a true Navy savant. He knew everything about everything. I remember a few of his sayings...
"That makes as much sense as a screen door on a submarine!"
Once before an impending inspection, he told the enlisted men, "I want you guys to make this place shine like a diamond in a goat's ass!"
