Grey Wolf (LW full-size with G22 OEM slide) needs a new pair of shoes (conversion barrel). Help me pick it out!

I'm going to get a conversion barrel from AIM. 40S&W to 9mm. I don't have a lot of .40 range ammo (or mags) so I'd like to shoot 9mm out of it. About $53 delivered. I'm leaning towards the polished SS... :)

Polished SS seems right to me e w is the the frame and slide colors.

Black threaded. Get a 9mm can if you dont already have one.

Taste the rainbow! ;)

I'd go black for "stealth," silver for "bling."

Trying to get to the range today with my new AIM JTT barrel. $35 on sale last week. Not sure if they have it in 17 size. Copper colored if that matters. Looks purdy on a black slide.

I have a Swenson "23" conversion barrel and it works good and is fairly accurate in the Shitmos slide. The threaded end could come in handy, as mentioned. Midway was OOS of the "22" version (below), hence the AIM options. Ratings seem OK so worth a try, IMO...

PS: the finish on the 23 is "as machined" but I could really make it pop if I wanted to... :)

Received the Aim Surplus barrel today. Looks like a nice piece, better polished than the Swenson. Also has a target crown. Next stop is the range to test it. I'll update if it is a flop. ;) Also need to sight in the Trijicons I just added.

Note the newness of the OEM .40 barrel--practically no "smile" at all. :) I'd say this slide was holstered 10,000 times and only shot 100 times...

UPDATE1: Took GW to the Action Pistol at my club last Saturday. Checked the sights quickly at the pistol range beforehand and they were acceptable. The pasties went over GW's shots. Also checked function of Second Chance, the second 80% pistol I ever built, a PF940 SC in FDE. I'll do a separate "build" post on it at a later date. The SC frame WAS completed like 3 years ago, and tested with a OEM 26 slide at the time, then put in a box waiting for its own slide.

The Action Pistol is event is every 4th Saturday, 9-11:30ish, usually about 10-15 of the same group of about 20 club members. JJ, an ex-cop, runs it and selflessly takes his time to set it up. We help take it down when done. It is free to club members and $15 to non-members who rarely show. I think my daughter was the last "guest" to pay... JJ will usually have 3 stages and we'll have the opportunity to do them more than one time each. Some of us will also have the opportunity to break out the carbines after pistols are done.

Last week's stages were:
1) Shoot 2 at each forward plate, change mag and shoot 3 at the rear plates. JJ likes to handicap the semis although we had no revolvers this week. :) A couple of us "competition" guys like to drop the mags and JJ is like "why would you throw away perfectly good rounds? You might need them!" :) So a different technique is used and a little pre-thought goes into it. (ie: don't drop the mag--pocket it and don't rack the slide)
2) Shoot 2+ at each plate through the "window", being careful not to be exposed to the other plates (perps) in the "cone of death". I've learned not to crowd windows or barriers since I've been going to APs.
3) The last stage was to shoot the back plates 1-2-3-4 then 4-3-2-1 WITHOUT hitting the annoyingly-placed poppers (friendlys/no-shoots). Then finish with a shot in the "window" of the front plate without hitting the outer plate. As soon as you hit a popper, the stage is over. My first time up, I got 2 shots off, 1 a miss, the second hit the popper! My next time up, I was getting used to the sights and cleared the stage with a couple misses but no friendlys. I even hit the window of the front plate! :) Next time up was similar. Since no one else was shooting, I went up again and did it one-handed. At this point, I was feeling confident with the sights. :)

There were 2 or 3 misfires that I cleared and determined they were from a weak primer strike. They went back in the gun and fired the second time through. Burned through about 100rds in the event. I've NEVER had any issues with this ammo. After the event, I went over to the pistol range to put more rounds through the SC and experienced a couple more misfires but these actually turned out to be duds as the third time through they did not go off.

Back home, both guns got a good cleaning. GW doesn't look the worse for the wear. The Aim Surplus conversion barrel worked fine with no FTFs or FTEs. I took the slide completely down afterwards and the only "issue" I noticed was the safety plunger spring was a little tweaked (arrow). I took the spring from the SC which will borrow the plunger and spring from the Durkin kit bought 3? years ago. The SC plunger (shown) seemed a little rough... Then I'll order an OEM plunger and spring at a later date to go in the GW. I don't think the misfires were equipment-related but as mentioned, I haven't had any issues with this ammo after probably 2000 rounds. In fact, I'll be using it in the Action Steel this Saturday.

It will be interesting to note the steel cased ammo round count when/if any extractor issues materialize, if any ever show up at all!

I'll have to keep that in mind... They are "lubricated" with zinc so there is that. ;)

I forgot to mention that the G22 slide still has what I'm assuming is the .40 extractor (if it differs from the 9) and the frame is still running the .40 ejector that LW gives with their kits. It ejects the spent 9mm at about 4 o'clock, 4' away.
