Since this is and has been a forum of sorts for Polymer80 frames and polymer builds I ask the question:

Has anyone built or thought of building a wooden pistol..??

I was thinking (my first mistake, too much time... lol) We have all these great polymer frames, Polymer80, now Geisler and others to build on.
We bore them out, polish them, dye them and perfect them to both function and to have an aesthetic appeal.

Has anyone thought of taking a good solid piece of wood and milling, burring and drilling it out like a Polymer80 frame???

HMMmmmmmmmmmmmm,,,,

I don't know what type of wood, hickory, oak, ash, etc...
Also, clear polymer resin or polymer epoxy to reinforce it?

You could make the wood any stained color you like, then gloss coat it.....

Once finished, you could call it "The Woody".... When you shoot it, you have a "Woodpecker"....

If they can make a "clear polymer frame" then why not one made of wood???

I don't think any kind of wood would hold up (functionally) at the critical points, starting with the pin holes.

If it was just a display piece, it would be a lot of work but look cool. But I wouldn't fire it.

I built a wooden pistol years ago, it looked similar to this photo. Couldn’t hit anything with it from a distance but it could be deadly up close.

You could absolutely do it if you had the time, skillset, and tools. Obviously, much like the polymer framed versions it would need metal in key areas, and I can't imagine you could reliably use standard pins to hold everything together without some type of metal insert to strengthen the holes.

I lived in a quaint (ie: old) little cottage up in RI. Nice big yard, big oak? trees, a couple concrete benches under one of the oaks. Over the decades, the oak had grown AROUND the side of the bench, swallowing it up partially.

What if you took a small hardwood tree, placed the rails in the "V" of a couple branches with a brace to keep them the correct orientation as the tree grows? I'm being silly as it would take at LEAST a year for the "frame" to grow... :D

Simply carved from a block? I don t think it would be strong enough. Engineered wood… maybe some kind of laminating process.

After all they used to make boats and aircraft out of wood. Lots of forces at work.

Black powder…. Been done. Center fire… harder to do.
