"...I'll jack yo ass like a looter in a riot.
-Cypress Hill
I cut the grass today and then said, Well... what am I going to do with the rest of my day?
Answer: G19x and Hellcat OSP. Mozambique drill.
I have a timer but it's a cluster trying to do that by yourself. If under two seconds, I'm good. I have a good feel for my elapsed time is under two seconds. Or not.
Ten yards. Normally I dont care about groups in a defensive scenario but this time I scribbled some notes after each three shots. I could see where the rounds were landing at ten yards. It's kind of pointless but I did it anyway. Mozambique is simple... off the draw, two in the ticker and one in the noggin. I don't care where the hole is. Although I did succeed with the Moe Green shot. That was intentional and I was happy it landed where I wanted it. I just love that Hellcat. It's like an extension of my arm now. I've been carrying a HC as my primary EDC for five years.
I did five drills with each gun. I could tell I was a little slower with the G19x. I hadn't shot it for a while. It's bigger and heavier, takes longer to clear the holster. Even so, my results were fine. I have to admit that I have slowly embraced using the red dot in this drill and once you get the target acquisition down and being natural, it does improve your accuracy. Even if you are already as awesome as I am with iron sights on a pistol
I was in a bit of a funk after not shooting those Trailside target pistols so well the other day. I get that bullseye vs defensive are different disciplines but it still bugged me.
Those who pay attention to my paper plate targets can probably tell which ones I bought and which the wife bought. She buys the nice ones that have color patterns and are rigid enough to avoid a man-sized helping of lasagna from ending up on your lap. I buy the cheapest, thinnest ones I can find at WalMart. The plates are spaced 12 inches center to center, approximating the average human anatomy. The cartoonish eyes and heart are partially for my own amusement but also serve a purpose. The heart is the size of a fist. If you hit it, the fight is over. Likewise, a shot to the forehead is most likely to cease all neurological functions immediately. There's no chance of a response from the assailant if you hit those marks. It's absolutely lights out for the bad guy. That may seem a little callous but it's important to remember that if you have no choice but to pull the trigger, it's already been determined it's your life or his.
