Back last year during Helene, we had so much rain it saturated the ground to the extent some water came up through the slab and got some corners of one room wet. Got the water cleaned up and everything dried out. Ran fans for days, put out moisture absorbent etc.
Ever since, that one room has had a very slight musty smell that you notice when first entering.
Ran up on an ozone generator from Amazon on sale. Too cheap to pass up.
Tried it out on the cars first. Seem to work.
We had a planned day trip out of town yesterday and figured this was the perfect time to use it in the house. (You can't occupy the house during treatment) Moved all the plants outside.
Set the generator up in front of the cold air return for the heat pump. Turned the outside unit off and ran just the inside unit fan to circulate it throughout the house.
Returned 8 hours later and turned on the attic fan for a couple hours to pull out the remaining ozone. There is a residual chlorine smell that reminds you of a swimming pool that dissipates after an hour or so.
The musty smell seems to have vanished. We'll see if it stays that way.
