This classic Kimber is going to MAD Coatings in Anaheim for renovations. The frame will be shimmer gold. The slide and various controls blue titanium. The barrel remains stainless. I'm going to polish that. I dont coat pistol barrels. Even CeraKote wears off in time.
The grips will be custom made. I'm remaining undecided on the grips until I see the finished product. Either some exotic wood or possibly fossilized mastodon or walrus tusk. No kidding. The mastodon tusks come from Siberia. No animals are harmed in the making of these grips!
The hammer and trigger shoe will be blue titanium. The name is misleading. It's a dark, bluish-black. The shimmer gold is metallic, not too bold. A subdued gold tint. Not pimp's tooth gold.
The Super Carry Ultra Plus was among the best compact 1911 carry guns ever made. Excluding hand-fitted guns of course. Made back in the day when Kimber meant quality. Kimber's founders perfected the compact 1911. There isn't a single MIM part in it. As you can see in the pic, mine is well worn. Lots of rounds thru this old girl. She's starting to look tired. In return for her years of dependability, she's getting a spa treatment and will come back looking brand new.
