I have been thinking about doing a 1911 build for awhile, I was curious which jig is better the phantom or the matrix jig? Also which are 80% frames would you recommend.

I can't comment on the matrix jig. I have the phantom and have done one 1911/9mm build and it worked well. A little bit of a learning curve for me making sure the blade was properly tight when doing the slide rails cut. The frame itself ended up great, very little play in the slide. My biggest gripe/concern is that Stealth Arms isn't offering 1911 blanks any more. I did the 1st one to make sure I could make it work and was prepping to do one of their higher end Cerakote options and everything dried up. Unsure if it was due to the lawsuits over 80% or focus on Platypus or a combo of the two. I am not finding the Phantom in stock any where right now. Maybe more of a matter of buying the one you can get?!

after looking around I think I’m going to get the matrix jig kit, I can’t find the phantom jig anywhere unfortunately.

I've got a matrix and have done several 80% frames with it.
The big thing for me was to match the width of the carbide
cutters to the slide rail width. NEXT thing was having a large
new file to deck the frame with. (Waiting for Vinegar to etch
file teeth to re-sharpen them is hard for me.)

Lastly be generous with lubing the carriage. I wasn't and galled
it a little bit. Didn't really stop anything but made it harder to
crank the lead screw.

And finally, you can cut one rail channel at a time to reduce the
load on the carriage. I did that with a couple builds and even
though it took longer, it made me happier due to less things
for me to watch.
