Most of us Carry because of the possibility of a perceived threat.
Threats come in many levels. The venomous snake every 2-3 years or Rabid Critters. Random Carjacker/Robber, Organized mobs, Dedicated Stalker/Targeted attacker, Multiple Targeted attackers, Terrorist Cells etc.
We also need to consider our reasonable engagement distance with what we have available and ammo capacity on your person as well as stopping power/penetration of what we are carrying.
Setups can be as simple as an IWB/ Pocket Holster to full shoulder harness with 100+rnds that you can wear under a jacket.
I'll post a few of my selections and carry options.

My snake/woods gun. When tripping around in the woods snakes are the biggest but rare threat or the occasional Rabid Critter. I've had my single shot 45/410 in a wallet holster for about 40 years. 6 snakes and a few suspicious critters were no problem

Since the 90's I've had a Kel Tec P11 and a Ruger LCP that I could pocket carry or Clip IWB. I also have a shoulder/OWB for the P11. The P11 is decently accurate and effective to 25 yds comfortably. The LCP inside 10yds would hopefully slow them down enough for my 6'5" 300+lb self to manage the threat better.

Now that I'm getting older Carry Optics allow me to be faster and more accurate than ever. Small Max9 in a Cargo Pocket Holster or maybe IWB. Medium Palmetto Dagger will be either IWB or shoulder carried.(waiting to pick up from FFL) For Heavy Carry my 7" 357sig Frankenglock with 3 30rnd reloads in a shoulder harness or OWB is the ticket. Lehigh XP's at over 2,000fps accurate to 200yds it's a handpdw.

My stupid, cool, custom carry cannon I call Crosseyed Mary. It's a Bond Arms Deringer in 357sig. It hurls Lehigh's at 2,100fps. Inside 10yds not much is walking away from that. I have a custom OWB/Shoulder holster for that as well.

I only have two.

Pocket carried S&W 642 in a Remora holster.
S&W-642-holster.jpg

P80 PFC9 (G19 clone) in an OWB BladeTech holster.
Blade-Tech-holster-EDC.jpg

It varies between:

  • Pocket .380 (5+1, 2x5)
  • Medium size .380 (7+1, 2x7)
  • Medium size .45 double stack (12+1, 1x12)
  • FS .45 (8+1, 2x8)
  • FS 9mm (17+1, 2x17)
  • FS 7.62x25 (8+1, 3x8)
(Capacity + spare mags)
Guess I could have listed it from carrying most to least but alas.
#2,3,4 I carry most.
The 7.62 I don’t have a good carry holster for so it kinda tuck in the waistband thing.
So depending on location, I consider malls and movie theaters higher risk than a trip to the neighborhood store.

Is that a Cobray for the cobras? ;) I have one of those but with the OE black grips. 45LC tumbles at 10' :D

That Tok round is vicious!!! If it was more available I might have skipped 357 Sig.

I had a Chinese Tokarev knock-off. The 7.62x25 had a definite "crack" to it out of the barrel. Usually the only ammo I could find was .30 Mauser that wasn't quite as snappy as the x25. Picked up a 9mm barrel for it which made it a little more usable but the gun was still a piece of shit and not well-made. Sold it to a room-mate but wished I had kept it for novelty purposes. :)

I almost picked up a Ruger P89 with the optional 7.62x25 barrel they used to offer. Double-nostalgia tugging at my heart strings. This was probably about 5 years ago and I would have had to travel 2hrs each way and at $500, I'd be paying a $200 premium over a single barrel gun. About 25 years ago I had a P85 MkII which pretty much became the P89 the next year. The stainless model, not a bad gun but a little rough around the edges. A little trigger bar smoothing and it ran nice. Traded it in on a G19 and occasionally look back but not often... ;)

PS: so does the .357 Sig have a "crack" to it like the Tok?
