I couldn't do it myself before, because the floor jack I had wouldn't go high enough to lift the SUV. And I didn't have jack stands. I fixed all that today with a new floor jack and jack stands. I got Harbor Freight's Daytona "long reach" 3-ton jack and their jack stands.

Having a good electric impact wrench speeds things up. The right tools make a big difference!

Tomorrow, oil change and new air filter and cabin air filter.

You know about Rock Auto, right?

What about it?
Buy from them. I have never had a wrong part sent to me in over 15 years. NONE. And I've bought a lot of crap from them.
I have more to say about those jack stands. Typing now.

They're online only, right?

@Racer88
Do you have a better photo of those jack stands closer up? Or, a close up view online that shows the legs of those stands? I am asking for a reason to prevent failure and injury because Harbor Freight jack stands failed in my shop. ;-)

Yes. You need to plan your parts. That's the downside. It can take 2-5 days typically to get them. Get your part number down and the parts will be correct. I have had parts delivered in a day when they are located in my state.

Yeah... I saw something about their older jack stands having a problem. The current ones are quite robust.

What do you want to see specifically?

Just the legs and the bottom bracing.

They can fail if incorrect. Happened in my shop with an engineer friend in a LIGHT vehicle. Only 2,000 pounds!

Stand by.

They buy close outs. Parts are dirt cheap in most cases.
Cabin air filter for the wife's Kia was $35 from Kia. $8 from Rock Auto.
In tank fuel pump for my Astro was about half what NAPA wanted for the identical part.
Wiper blades are dirt cheap. The rear wiper for my Astro was $8 from NAPA before they discontinued it. $2.50 from Rock Auto and when it came it was a NAPA wiper blade.
Brake pads and shoes. Name brand stuff too. Cheap.
Bought all the parts to completely rebuild the front suspension on my old '84 G20 Chevrolet van.

Just bought a crankshaft position sensor for the wife's 2006 Kia.
The list goes on and on.
Worth checking when you need something, especially filters etc.

They have multiple warehouses. You need to look at where each part ships from to avoid multiple shipping charges. this is shown after you put the items in the cart. You can sometimes select another manufacturer and it will ship from the same location as your other parts.

Rock Auto is good for maintenance items or repairs you are planning. Not necessarily big fires where you have to get to work the next day!

Outside of race cars, I use Wix filter exclusively. You can buy 2-3 with an order and they are A LOT cheaper to buy than O'Reillys

You have nailed it.
Also look at their close out links for each vehicle you own. You have to type in the correct URL link to get the close out links. Once you learn how to cut and paste those links, they are always available. I look there FIRST every time I order parts.

Then there is a 5% discount code each month. You have to look for this code online.

Brake pads, wiper blades and any filters are gonna be a lot cheaper at Rock Auto over the auto parts stores as outlined by @no4mk1t . You just need to figure out how to marry the shipping costs and that can take you a bit of time selecting between each brand of part because they stash the parts in various places around the country.

Also, they don't just buy close outs. You can find the exact same parts and brand name parts that the local auto parts store sells. Most of the major brands are there.

This.
When I had the auto parts store, ours were made for us by Wix.
Cut open a Wix oil filter and compare to a Fram. You will be shocked. Even OEM filters like AC Delco filters aren't as good as Wix.

@Racer88 Give me the year, make, model of your wife's car and the engine and transmission type. I will send you the URL link for the "close out" parts and you will see how to access them easily.

Did you see the jack stand pics above?

@Racer88 Your car code is: 3447170
Notice the number after the equal sign in the link below.

You can find the car code number in the link where you search for parts for your wife's car. Notice at the same number at the end of the link below. It will work for any car they have. You don't have a whole lot of close out parts because her car is relatively new. But I have three vehicles I'm rebuilding and replacing parts for the long term that are between the years of 2000-2010 and there is a long list of close out parts for them. I am rebuilding them because you will have a big burden in a few years getting efficiently priced repairs and parts done for newer cars that are largely computer controlled now. Just like you had in the computer era where software and hardware changed regularly . The code written for the various chips and boards on modern cars is done mostly by third party vendors for manufacturers. Just like the old computer upgrade train we all went through, it will be worse for cars. The vendors will be writing code and supporting newer cars, not cars five years old. Unfortunately, some folks are going to have a big surprise in a few years if they are used to owning cars for ten or more years.

@no4mk1t See my links above in this post. Cut and paste your own car code number by looking at the link in the browser for the number. If you use Chrome, you may have to change some settings so they are visible, or it may work by mouseover. I do not tend to use Chrome unless I'm debugging code. So, if you can't find the number, let me know and I'll go root around in Chrome.
