We took the Enterprise through the edge of a Typhoon in 82.


Not to sidetrack a joke thread but your post made me lookup typhoons and carriers. I found an interesting article. Here is a quote and a couple of links below. The first link is written quite well. Quite an astounding, descriptive read.

The Dewey did not lose a man, although at the height of the storm it was reported that a member of the crew was washed overboard from the after gun deck. It was later learned that another wave threw him back on board and he crawled into an empty ammunition locker to ride out the storm.

I took this photo aboard the USS Independence. Sea of Japan. Not a storm. That's white water coming over the flight deck bow, which is about 60 feet above the waterline.
