Never built a precision rifle before. Now all of sudden it's kinda an interesting thought. The only rifle I have to work with is a Ruger M77 in 270. That means a new rifle I guess. That's one of my favorite hunting guns. Shoots sub MOA at 100 yards. So now without breaking the bank prefer a bolt gun. With wood. Detachable mag. Cal yet to be determined. 22-250? 25-06? 22 Swift? I guess selecting the receiver comes first. Good place to do a little lookin?

You have a ton of options here. You can build an AR platform in just about any caliber you want, with a plethora of barrel choices like Bartlein, krieger, Rock, etc. and in different lengths, and with different triggers and bcg's. Lots of cool options there. Another great way to go is some of the Tikka and Savage offerings are really really great right out of the box. Cool thing about the Savage model 10 is its a switch barrel. Buy it in 308 and practice practice and get a second 6.5 creedmore barrel and just use it for serious competition or precision work. and KRG and Accuracy International and McMillan and Manners make some really awesome stocks for the Savage too. Just food for thought.

If you prefer the Remington 700 style bolt action, look at Surgeon and Stiller actions.

Don't really a favorite acton. Want something that is buttery smooth. And the more I think about it 22 250 or 222 swift.

6.5 grendel is proving to be remarkable round. Both hunting and range. Very mild recoil is making it my favorite. Been out of commission for over a year and just started back shooting, so Ima lil rusty and still it preforms. Need to take 20" to a 800/1000yds. 600yds is my max here local and not challenging. Hunting with it is proving to be very impressive. Deer,Hogs & cyotes w/16" out to 200yds is effortless, havent gone pass that. Popping coyotes with 20", my best shot is 680 yds 123gr ELD factory Hornady.
Not a target round by any measure, BUT managed to shoot 1/2" 3shot groups 150yds w/ the 350 legend out of a 12" barrel.
I had planned on a 22-250. After playing with 6.5 grendel. I think I will stick with it. They have come out with some really good rounds from 90gr to 130gr which covers anything I want to do.
