Youtuber challenges folks at the range to shoot a 1-MOA group inside the X-ring for $1,000. All of them confident they are "1-MOA shooters." Most of them really sucked, despite having some very high-end rigs. By my observation, many of them lacked fundamentals.

Someone finally wins at the end! <--- Blurred out spoiler! Click if you want to see!

It's amazing, yet not surprising. Some of the guys in the video were really bad! 4-inch groups at 100 yards?? I see it at the range all the time... That and much worse. Most rifle shooters can't shoot for shit. And it's got nothing to do with the rifles.

It's a good thing this guy didn't show up at our range when my daughter, @Caleb, @BeerHunter, or I were there!

A couple of my daughter's 5-shot groups at 100 yards on the same day.

If you think that's bad, take away what they prop the rifle on and see what happens. o_O

I also see a tendency of peeps to buy an expensive rifle and expect cheap ammo to shoot well in it. If you want match grade results, you gotta shoot at least premium ammo if not match grade ammo. Buying a high end AR and shooting Philippine M193 Ball ammo* is not a recipe for success.

*We had a guy that showed up to our club High Power match with this ammo. Stock Colt HBAR with no mods. You can guess how that turned out.
To his credit, he turned out to be a decent shooter. That stock HBAR with its chrome lined barrel took him all the way to a Master Classification after it was given a float tube, match sights, and a trigger...and decent ammo
Guys name was Dreyer. He used to joke that he could never live in Germany because of how he would be formally addressed. šŸ˜‰

Well sure. But even with a bipod or bag rest, a lack of fundamentals will lead to big groups.

Well... these "contestants" all claimed that they could shoot 1-MOA. So presumably, they knew which kind of ammo they need to achieve that... and would use that ammo in the challenge. But, yes..... ammo matters.

LOL! I had to think about it for just a sec.

Dreyer was a cool dude. Born and raised in SC, but it was hard to tell it.
Hitchhiked across the country as a teenager (it was the 70's) when that was common.
Worked for the Royal Saudi Airline as a computer guru when computers were fairly new. Said it sucked because no beer in a Moslem country, so he had to make friends with a guy at the US Embassy and get him to fly beer in for him. Then he had to drink it at the Embassy.
One of the perks though was free airfare. He would fly to Rome or Paris, or anywhere the airline flew for free and spend the weekend.

But he sucked at Redneck Trivial Pursuit. I took that game to Perry one year and he couldn't answer any of the questions...like what is the firing order of a small block Chevy engine. Well, technically, he did answer ONE question correctly. He knew which Russian ballet dancer defected to the US in 1972...but remember, this is REDNECK Trivia. The answer was..."Anyone that knows that has to moved back a spot". :ROFLMAO:

Depending on the day, I might be able to do it :)

and here is why I word it that way. I have been shooting 1000 yard targets for 6-7 years now, do it regularly.

After all that long distance experience, 100 yards doesn't even seem like a shot I would ever miss

but :D :D :D

Life happens and nothing is ever perfect

Even though I can shoot a lot (statistically significant) of sub MOA 5 shot groups at 100 yards
(my equipment can 100% shoot sub MOA)

Not every single group I shoot is always sub MOA at 100 yards,

I am not a machine, I am not a perfect shooter and other things that can fluctuate in ammo and rifle performance (at my level, I do not have expensive anything) that I have never been able to figure out cause the occasional flyer (flyer might put it at 1.10 to 1.25" group, almost never outside that, even over a 20 shot group)

I shoot with guys that get annoyed at themselves if they go over a 1/2" group at 100 yards or can't hit a 6 inch target at 1000. I think they shoot with me to feel better about themselves when they see my groups :)

Yep. Last Saturday, I shot at 100 yards. It was not my day. I'm usually a consistent sub-MOA shooter out to 300 yards. But the planets were not aligning for me that day.

Yep those are the days I pack my rifle back up and go home

or depending on where I am shooting, switch to pistols then go home ;)

Ha! Yep... switched to the pistol range. Sucked wind there, too. Mind you... "sucking wind" for me would be outstanding targets for most of the folks there. But I just wasn't "on" for me.

So we went to lunch early! :)

Gosh this makes me think of our AR-builds' maiden voyage to Le Range.

And 'yours truly' here had completely forgot to boresight them both. I wish I had a camera for some of the faces I saw of those with spotting scopes looking downrange....priceless incredulity.

I was embarrassed to be next to you on the line that day. Pretended not to know who you were. Didnā€™t even have to write ā€œyou suckā€ on your target! šŸ˜
