After owning the shockwave for a very short time, I throw a brace on it so it was more manageable and enjoyable to shoot for us. The brace was not pleasant so I put a stock on it. That was a game changer.

Other than the stock, it's been cerakoted, vortex venom, threaded for chokes and a magpul stock. I reverse engineered my mossberg 500's barrel and had a buddy who can run a lathe thread the barrel for me. Easy peasy. It works perfect. Depending on the choke, it will shoot a hair looser than our 28" barrel shotguns at the same range with the same ammo.

I did not plan to put a red dot on it but unfortunately it required a 6 o'clock hold which is common with shockwave's. We are used to holding center so the red dot tool care of that. I started to like the red dot so I did not entertain a much taller front sight. I've pattern many times of shells both bird shot and buck. I'll be running this in a defensive class next month.

Ummm, what length barrel? Now that it has a stock, I believe it needs to be 18” or longer to not run afoul of the AFT.
^^THIS^^ is the first thing I thought. Even a brace on a Shockwave is bad juju, from what I recall.

My Shockwave, which I really enjoy. To me, shouldering it would make it more UNcomfortable. I find shooting my Shockwave with full load 12-ga shells to be more pleasant than my H&R Topper 12-ga shotgun shouldered. Even slugs... the H&R Topper is BRUTAL on my shoulder. The Shockwave, held at my waist or chest level is MUCH easier to shoot with slugs. The H&R hurts! The Shockwave "gets my attention," but it doesn't hurt.

Just my own opinion and experience.

My Shockwave.
I bought it before the price on these started to climb. Really wanted wood furniture, but no one offered it at the time. About a year later, Mossberg introduced the Nightstick as a Talo exclusive. They refused to sell the wood separately. Finally found an intrepid soul in SE Asia that sells them on ebay.

On the subject of shooting high. If you install this sight, the Shockwave will shoot to POI. And it's super bright in the dark.

COOL! I just bought a shockwave and wondering what I could do to dress it up. Haven't shot it yet but it looks like fun. What range ammo do most of you use?

The source for most of my goodies has been Defender Tactical.

For ammo... just depends. Of course, you can fire regular 12-ga (or 20-ga, if that's what you got) ammo. Buckshot. Slugs. Whatever. But a nifty specialty ammo for the Shockwave are the "Shorty" (1-3/4") ammo from Federal and Aguila. I've only used the Federal.

As you might expect, the Shorty aka "mini-shell" ammo has less recoil and a higher capacity.

This accessory for the Shockwave is a MUST HAVE, IMO.

Instead of using the little o-ring strap retainer, I passed the strap under the rubber grip sleeve for a very clean installation. This rear grip enhancement kit makes gripping the Shockwave like wearing a glove. And it helps with recoil management immensely!

What about the part that facilitates using the mini shells? I seem to remember you found one that works with both mini and 2.75.
Now that I go looking for the info I can't find it.

I seem to recall that Racer is not much of a laser guy with guns, but it would seem like this Mossberg is a good candidate for one. Particularly if hip firing or not looking directly down the sight. @no4mk1t the wood furniture looks great!

Yep. For a defensive pistol, I'm not a big fan of lasers. But for the Shockwave, which is intended to be fired "from the hip" so to speak... I think a laser has it's "perfect" place. I used Defender Tactical's "Tri-Rail" to mount it and a QD swivel sling attachment.

the "s" model can shoot mini shells without an adapter: 590S Shockwave

I did not know someone made an adapter capable to using a tlr-8 in that config. I much rather that than other light solutions I've seen.

That never made sense to me. I think a shotgun course would open peoples eyes that hip firing is usually not the best idea.

Yep. That model came out after I got mine. But if you got the regular Shockwave, I can tell you that the Defender Tactical "universal" minishell adapter works a charm. I can even load a mix of shorties and regular shells, and it works perfectly.

Also got that tri-rail adapter from Defender Tactical.

The Shockwave isn't really a "shotgun." Obviously, it's not designed to be fired from the shoulder. You CAN bring it up to eye level and use the sights. Of course, you better have a firm grip on it - The DT Rear Grip Enhancement Kit does wonders for ensuring a good grip.

That all said... what is wrong with "hip firing?" Why is it not the "best idea?" I have fired the Shockwave with accuracy... not literally from the hip... but held at slightly below my chest level. In this case, using the laser for aiming. But at defensive distances, point / instinctive shooting is certainly viable, just as it is with a pistol.
