"Sound suppressors, often called silencers, help protect gun owners’ hearing.

That’s the conclusion one of the largest ear-doctor organizations, with more than 13,000 members, reached this month. The American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS) issued a position statement backing the use of the noise-reducing devices. It pointed to three different studies that found suppressors help prevent hearing loss."

Here's the position statement

Reform is what Dr. Timothy Wheeler was hoping for when he proposed the statement alongside six colleagues. Wheeler, a board-certified otolaryngologist and AAO-HNS life fellow, is also the founder of Doctors For Responsible Gun Ownership. He said he hopes AAO-HNS’s adoption of the statement leads to a different approach to gun ownership at major medical organizations.

“My personal hope is that this represents maybe a change of heart for at least one small part of academic medicine,” Wheeler told The Reload. “Academic medicine has a very long way to go to climb out of the credibility gap that they have created for themselves in the public eye because they’ve been pretty much taken over by a lot of social and political crusades, including gun control, going way back to the late 1980s.”

Now is the time to remove suppressors from the NFA. Congress can do that.
But they won't. I wouldn't hold my breath.

I'd be all over some suppressors if it didn't require an NFA form / registration. It's a deal-breaker for me.

If the can makers put their lobbyists on a full court press, it could fly. Either way I'm getting another for the 300 BLK project.

It would be an awesome win. But too many politicians and people think that "silencers" are the tools of assassins and that they really go "pew pew."

Many European countries - with Draconian gun laws - dont regulate suppressors. Some countries require them for hunting. I agree it's a long shot but it is possible this stupid regulation is abolished.

We can also hope for SCOTUS to vacate the entire NFA. Wouldn't that put certain folks in a tizzy?
Unlikely they will remove constraints on machine guns. I'd be content if they struck all but that.

It's been tried before. The Hearing Protection Act et al. Don't hold your breathe. Congress will have way more important irons in the fire and this is way down on the priority list.
And even if by some miracle it does get removed from the NFA, how much you wanna bet ATF will require dealers report sales directly to them. So, no Excise Tax, but there will still be a database.

Probably. Still better than paying for and waiting for a stamp. One of mine took 17 months. It's much faster now, but it still is a long wait.

One of mine took 15 months, Not anymore.
One of the large silencer dealers sued and the ATF hired contractors to reduce the backlog. I know several peeps who have gotten approved in 2-3 days.

That's not the only strange group who are now Second Amendment allies.

Since progressives believe literally Hitler is our new prez and the original literal Hitler was known for operating literal death camps for people like the ones in the above article it would be smart for progressives to arm themselves so they can literally #resist being herded into the next cattle car heading to literal death camps or something.

Ironically, the people they THINK are their enemies (conservative gun owners) are the same people that enthusiastically welcome them into the fold of gun ownership.

Don't believe it has a snowballs chance in hell, but it is encouraging to see things leaning in this direction...

I'm not a constitutional lawyer but I did stay at a Holiday Inn. Would seem that the NFA is more likely to be overturned than an abolishment of the ATF. To me, congress took steps to alter the constitution without taking the necessary steps to ratify it in the creation of the NFA. For those reasons alone and that protection of firearms is a constitutional right, I believe the NFA is unconstitutional since it is circumventing the process of ratifying the constitution by removing and or hindering access to all firearms.
