The Colt Python story continues....

Seems like the common complaint on the Pythons are the rear sight. There is no way to keep that rear sight secured and the thing falls apart, reportedly. The Wilson is the fix for that. As I understand it, it's the only flaw on an otherwise fine upgraded Python.

I think Wilson offers the U as well as square notches on that rear sight.
Colt already had the Eliason and had used it for decades on the Python and Gold Cup. I wonder why they changed it?

My eyes like U channel sights. Springfield uses them a lot.
That's what I got with this Wilson sight. Since the front sight is a round gold bead, it made sense to frame it with a U-channel rear sight. My first one. I haven't shot it with this sight, yet. I don't know if I'll notice the difference. But it just made sense since I had a choice.

If I acquire an older pistol whose night sights are done, I replace them with a U channel type. I'm not that picky and dont find night sights all that useful, so I dont spend a lot of money. If I find Mepro or TruGlo sights on sale I will buy them. Not because they glow but because they are inexpensive and do the job.

The conventional wisdom is the U channel is faster for target acquisition and the box or square channel is best for accuracy when you have the time to aim. True or false? I don't really know for sure. Gun people can be like a bunch of bickering nabobs when it comes to opinions on things like this. :)

A bad marksman blames the gun. A good marksman knows his sights need adjustment. :)

I can shoot well with any kind of sight but the most likely scenario in my former line of work and now personal self defense is that speed is paramount. I gravitated toward U channel many moons ago and it works for me. If that includes Tritium, light pipes, or plain irons... I don't really care. I do like a bright color on the front sight though.

LOL!

I'll never confirm nor deny any "jizzing." ;) But I did really enjoy shooting the Python. Once I got that silliness out of my head, it was like a new gun and a lot of fun.

Went to the range today to dial in the new Wilson Combat rear sight. A couple of my targets:

I love revolvers/ all kinds, and that's a beautiful one, Racer.

I only have three revolvers currently. Two are snubbies (S&W 642 Airweight and Chiappa Rhino 200DS). I'd like some more full-size revolvers like this Python. I'd like a .22LR.... the S&W 617 AND the Ruger Single-Ten.

They are fun to shoot. The process of loading, shooting, and unloading slows you down. It's ritualistic compared to firing a semi-auto. It's a "cowboy" gun, much like a lever-action rifle.

Big bore revolvers are even more fun. My fave is the S&W 625 in 45ACP. And then there are the 44's...both Special and Mag.

Although the 617 sounds interesting. Looks to be an L frame. And there are speedloaders for it.

The Wilson Combat front fiber optic sight came in today. Installed tonight. (I previously installed the WC rear adjustable sight.)

The gold bead front sight that came with the gun was not very visible to my eye.

So, I thought I'd try a fiber-optic front sight (green).

Oddly, the gold bead shows up better on the photo than it does at the range.

And to the contrary, the fiber optic sight doesn't show as well in the photo as it does in real life.

It's not easy capturing it on a phone camera. But here's what I got tonight. Gold bead on left. Green fiber optic on right. Looking forward to trying it out at the range.

Given the type of gun... I'd go gold bead.
