Hi, I built this awhile ago and am having trouble with it. Finally got around to posting here to figure out what the heck is wrong.

When I went to test fire it would shoot reloaded 9mm I had but would have trouble with battery of the slide fully forward, had to give it a slap, while some PMC 9mm would load easily but not fire it. I had a firing pin break that I replaced but I’m not sure what’s wrong. I want to clarify I got my slide and barrel from eBay (I know, someone at my job recommended buying parts from there and I won’t anymore.) If you need more photos let me know. Any questions or suggestions would be helpful.

The slide lock spring is not seated. It should be flush to the floor of the frame. With it sticking up it will drag on your recoil spring.

These are tricky to insert correctly. Most springs, even oem, are cut sharply where they insert to the frame. I like to break the edges and smooth them off. It is a tight slot and any sharp edge will snag on the plastic, create a burr and stop the spring from going all the way in. To make this more challenging the slot isn't straight down, it is at a slight angle.

Take the spring out, clean up the slot if there any burrs. Going to need magnification and good light to see down there. Smooth up the tip of the spring. Reinsert making sure it goes in at the correct angle. Make sure it is flush to the frame. It does not click in or give you any feel feedback that it is seated. There is a possibility that that tip of the spring is too long. I've seen that on aftermarket stuff.

Every little bit of drag on the function adds up. That spring dragging is a lot.

Hi bkbrno, thank you for replying. I was comparing what I had to other threads and recognized this too. I was playing with it last night before I posted this. I’m going to work on it today and try to test this Saturday when I head out and practice.

Thanks for joining the forum and participating by posting! When you get a chance, please write up a quick “introduction” (or RE-introduction if you were a former MGB forum member) of yourself over in the Introduce Yourself! section. Tell us about yourself, your building experience, and how you found the forum.

Jump into other threads, too! Come on in... the water's fine! 😊

MGB snips it and installs it. I would smooth the burr from cutting with a stone.

I do this because, on my first build, this spring went in and out a few times. Each time, before I smoothed it, there were shavings of plastic in the slot. That is my contribution to FTQ. MGB seems to be open to anything that makes it better and would welcome the suggestion.

THIS^^^^ sometimes debris from removing material from the frame makes its way in the spring slot. With the takedown lever removed, the spring should push straight into the slot all the way to the "corner" of the spring.
