A video circulating on social media shows a Waymo vehicle stopped and completely blocking a street as an ambulance attempts to pass.
  • The autonomous vehicle slowly inches forward as a police cruiser pulls up behind it.
  • An Austin police officer then gets out of the car to talk to the company through its speaker system. After at least a minute, the car drives away and into a parking garage, and the video ends.
  • It's unclear from the video whether the ambulance ultimately reached the scene or took another route.

If I was that officer, I'd have just shoved that Wamo off the street.

That's what I said to my wife. Put the ambulance (or police cruiser) up against it and push it out of the way.

I remember once, in the 1980's, in Fife Washington, I was at a red light when a fire engine came up behind us with siron blaring. I pulled over as far as I could, but a little old lady (who was probably younger than I am now, but I digress) was frozen at the light with no idea what to do. THe driver of the fire engine finally got on his PA and told he that if she did not move, he was going to shove her out of the way.

I've also seen police officers do it, so I am surprised the officer in Austin didn't.

Although, Austin is one of the rare whacko libelal bastions in Texas so he'd probably have to pay for all the damage from his paycheck, and any made up medical complaints from the passenger if ther was one, plus go to jail for thirty years.
