What model Colt is this? My Nephew found it on a job.

Mr. Saturday Night Special.

Whoops, wrong color.

My nephew's a plumber, and is doing some work at a hospital. Someone in the hospital had at some point pushed a ceiling tile up and put the gun up there.
He doesn't have the gun. That picture's taken from a video he sent me. He told his supervisor, and the super called the boss. The boss said that he doesn't care if they throw the gun away or keep it, but don't call the police, because the police would likely hold up the job getting done.
The supervisor kept the gun, and said he has a cop friend that he'll get to run the serial number. I'm thinking he's going to just keep the gun for himself.

I'm pretty sure it's a Colt. Do you know what model it is?

I'm not knowledgeable enough to identify model (or if it's even a Colt). But it appears to be loaded.

My guess is Detective Special 2nd Edition. Notches on the cylinder are correct for Colt. Rest is too fuzzy to make out and I don't know Colts that well.

That's it, thanks, man.

Made from 1907 until 1973

It's a First Series Detective Special, which means it's pre-war, or very early post war assembled with pre-war parts.
The half moon front sight and screw and locking pin on the right side determine this. If you could see the cylinder latch, it would be checkered. Something Colt dropped in post war models.

First Series guns are sought after by Colt collectors. Nickle guns are less common than blued, so that bumps the value. An 80-90% condition gun will sell for $1100-$2100. If it is an early serial number gun, even more.

That's BS right there--I'd be all "Finders Keepers, Motherfucker! Give it back!" with my hand on his throat... :D
Very expensive Saturday Night Special and likely stolen... :(

He's 23, and has been at that job for around a year. I think the supervisor kind of rank bullied him out of it.
But, yeah, I'd like to have that gun. It looks to be in great shape for it's age.

I think it is time for Uncle Dave to go help his nephew retrieve his rightful property. :devilish:
