What ya listening to?

How so? I love it.
Zero interest in 400,000 channels of music I dont want to listen to - or talk radio shows like Stern. They even have a porn channel. I dont get it. Porndio? That's like bowling on radio.

60 bucks a year then they persistently spam you or call to upsell you to other shit. I just dont want any of it. Never going to use it. The dealer guy said... if you lock you keys in the car, forget where you parked it or it gets stolen... I said I dont give a fuck if it gets stolen. I have insurance. And my phone remembers where my car was parked. But it reminds you of your regular maintenance, he said. I told him I dont have Alzheimer's and can remember to get my oil changed when it needs to be done.

Sirius to me is like Comcast. I have cut the cord on TV and I dont want it in my vehicles. We have three Jeeps. That's $180 a year minimum for Howard Stern, hits from the 70's, and Alzheimers insurance - just in case I find myself at a mall. Which also never happens :) No thanks! My phone has all the music I want on it. Radio is dead. 💀

We used to have Sirius before Covid.
Now we drive maybe 1 day a week to go get groceries so it no longer made sense.

The $60 dollars a year is a bait and switch to get you in on the system - 5 bucks a month for the top tier plan for the first year, auto renewing at somewhere around 40 bucks a month after that unless you call to cancel and then suffer through multiple transfers with people trying to talk you into staying untill the last one offers you a plan for like 10 bucks a month untill next year when you go through the same frustrating crap

And like you, three vehicles so in a year each gets driven maybe 1000 miles (if we take a vacation trip)

I have Pandora on the military plan and it works awesome for $108 a year
All my vehicles, my computers, and my TV's get Pandora with one subscription.
They also have a free plan.

I don't listen to talk shows. I have about 12 Rock channels saved on my presets. A few comedy stations and Fox News on the remaining presets. Most of the time I flit from rock station to rock station. I also have alerts that pop up for my favorite bands when one of their songs is playing. Pretty neat.

My commute is 45-60 minutes each way. So it's nice to listen to what I want to listen to.... uninterrupted by ads.

I guess I'm missing out on that. I don't pay attention to spam. I seem to recall I get occasional promotional emails from them on my Gmail, which I just skip over like most other promotional emails.

I'm not aware of any such feature with XM radio. Though I do have Starlink in my new Subie. The value of that is perhaps dubious. But it's not much money. If I crash and cannot call for help, the car does it automatically.

Compared to "free" over-the-air radio... I don't miss THAT at all. I hate the commercials. There is only one local rock station. A couple more in distant cities with reception that is spotty. I don't like the DJ and morning show chatter and prank calls. I just want MUSIC. My kind of music. Tons of it to choose from. For the price... I consider it a great value.

Jeep Uconnect and Sirius are intertwined. I presume Jeep is using the Sirius network to connect the enhanced 0services to the car. Uconnect and Sirius Guardian.

I find the in-car Jeep system works fine without all the connectivity nonsense. When I get in the car with my iPhone it activates Apple CarPlay. I dont need anything else. My music is on the phone and all my apple devices. I don't use the Jeep nav either. Apple Maps works thru the CarPlay system. As does txt, email.

OTA radio.... awful. I quit listening to radio when the MP3 revolution began. Even before I commuted mainly on a motorcycle in DC and didnt have music in my ears. Also used public transportation. Long drives... not my thing. I will seek any other alternative before I'll drive someplace in or around a city. I do listen to podcasts. Many years ago I did audiobooks on long drives. You can get a lot of reading done in otherwise wasted time with audiobooks.

(c)RAP.

The worst thing that ever happened is when Aerosmith legitimized the stealing of other people's REAL music by running "samples', was with RUN DMC "Walk This Way" abomination. The band was financially on the skids, rehab candidates, all out wrecks, and needed the money. I think Steven Tyler was broke and living in a flophouse at that time. So that little insta-cash ploy. gave that cRAP a boost. And gave them some publicity that helped drive them to clean up and re-group.

I will not legitimize that shit for one second, any more than I will Graffiti and call it 'art'. No, it's flipping VANDALISM. So is plagiarizing & stealing other REAL musician's work. Then we have the more "evolved" RAP with the beat box, drum machine, shake a box of chiclets for the beat (oh I SO hate that white noise crap) or handclaps and do some attitude yapping over some little ditty on a $300 synth. Tweety birds chirping or some crap. Or those female rap 'singers' who sound like they are three years old...

The original rapper was Dr. Seuss!

My cousin is on disability/welfare. Typical rabid Dumpocrap. He gets Sirius/XM "discounted" because he is a deadbeat. Same with zamazom priim. 😠

Anyhow, he will want me to listen to Stern talking to some other piece of shit to which I answer in the negative. Stern was barely/occasionally funny/entertaining 35 years ago and he hasn't gotten any better. This was up in RI when I could get his broadcast on AM radio out of NYC. I preferred Imus over Stern. Then I got a FM radio in the car and talk fell at the feet of Rock and Roll... :)

I never understood Stern's popularity. Now, the Greaseman... he was funny. Arguably the best shock jock ever.

It's funny how these guy like Stern and Jimmy Kimmel made a living featuring scantily clad hot young babes and in Sterns case promoting hookers and porn stars. Now they are righteous defenders of women and men who think they are women.

Totally agree! I miss my ROFLMAO morning commutes listening to The Greaseman on DC101 (IIRC)! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

'Cause I tend to trust this group ... yeah I know 😎

I'm looking for a portable MP3 player with Bluetooth, a good workable menu layout, large storage, good play time (battery) and reasonable speed when navigating the menus.

I'd appreciate any suggestions/opinions you might have on players like this.

PS: I prefer not to repurpose a cell phone ...
