Well, after military I decided time was a function of when I feel like it. Haven't wore a watch in 16 years Sept 30...

I like wearing a watch regardless of whether I "have" to be somewhere. I'm pretty sure at this age, I didn't have any pressing appointments.

Me at age 5 (I think). Even then, I knew "a man wears a watch!"

My vintage Seiko c359-5000 calculator watch today.

There's a story / personal history behind this watch. I wrote it up here:

I remember trying to use one of those for a math test and got caught by the teacher. D’0h!

'Fess up! You didn't get in trouble for using the calculator to cheat. The teacher looked over your shoulder and saw this!

Pic is from a "EDC" thread, but my 70's era SeaDweller is there. Bought as a Rolex-refurbed estate piece in 1985. It's been on my wrist pretty much daily since then.

What is the Victornox thingy on top of your wallet?

What is the Victornox thingy on top of your wallet?

It's a "Swiss Card", came with the Victorinox wallet as a package. Bought two of them 20 odd years ago, this is the second one. There's supposed to be a little door that swings up to cover the scissor, etc., but they break off easily. It has come in handy, from time to time, especially the pen.

Funny story: That has been in my wallet daily for 20 years. Went with my daughter's 8th grade class trip as a chaperone. It went into the Smithsonian and all through the Capitol building (including the lower tunnels which I understand are off-limits now), metal detector staff never said a word about it. Then, we were heading to the Statue of Liberty. Dumped my pocket contents into a plastic bucket, the attendant rummaged about, a horrified look came over his face, he removed the Swiss Tool from the wallet, held it up over his head by a corner as if were a diseased rodent, and loudly announced to a supervisor "Pocket tool! Pocket tool!, We have a POCKET TOOL!" Supervisor came over, inspected it carefully, then took me aside (as I held my pants up as they still had my belt). "Sir", he said in a conspiratorial tone, "I'll let you take this over to the island. You may walk the grounds and enter the gift shop. IF you decide to enter the statue, you'll have to surrender it to security."

I thought that was hilarious. For the record, I did not enter the statue. :)

Edit: I see they still make the Swiss Card, though it's been redesigned and they've eliminated the useless door and added an LED.

I'm a little confused... Statue of Liberty? Near the Smithsonian and Capitol building?

But, that's pretty funny about the "horror" of your pocket tool.

"That's not a pocket tool. I got yer pocket took right here!" ;)

It was a 5 day bus trip "Heritage Tour", DC, NYC, Gettysburg (my favorite part of the trip), Capitol building, Ford's Theatre (also a highlight), National Archives (got a Elvis meeting Nixon coffee mug), Liberty Bell, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial (very, very moving), etc.

I've only got one watch, but it's the finest watch Burger King ever made. The display is long dead but it still loudly says "mmmm, burger".
