Our journey begins with me walking into my local shop and picking up a G48MOS & some lovely accessories to go with it:
And so begins the road of cash-burning and accessorizing...
I am by no means a talented polisher or machinist but I decided that I wanted my Vickers slide stop to be silver, not steel black.
So I whipped out the Flitz and the Dremel and made my wish a reality. I only worked on the part that was visible from the outside of the gun so I didn't compromise function.
I think it turned out OK. (You can judge it as well in the finished images)
I also polished the factory extractor after the one I bought from LoneWolf was out of spec and wouldn't pull the snapcaps out properly.
Now right as I was planning out the upgrades to this build.. ZP announced the release of their 43/43X/48 blowhole compensator. I was already going with one of their slides and barrels and so it seemed the obvious choice to go with their comp as well.. Problem was that the ZP.2 G48 slides have a bob cut of their own:
From ZP: " If you are using a G48 with a “Bob Cut” this compensator may not be aesthetically pleasing as it also has a bob cut style front."
So I shot them an email inquiring when they might release a variant of the compensator without a bob cut..
After a couple weeks of waiting I decided that I didn't want to wait any longer and I would take it upon myself to make a variant of the compensator with no bob cut.
Bought their stainless steel compensator and a handful of Dremel cutting wheels and did some "wylie coyote ACME" dremel gunsmithing.
After successfully chopping off the bob cut I sanded down the surface to make it reasonably smooth and then went at it with some Flitz:
As you can see it is far from perfect, but it made me happy so I left it. I was afraid to sand it down too much because I did not want to destroy/reduce the set screw threads.
Then we had one other issue that needed to be addressed.. I bought a lovely holster from my good friends over at Tier 1 Concealment. The Axis Elite Model in Recon Fog:
It was molded for just a threaded barrel.. not a compensator.
So I did what any reasonable person would do and I attacked the front of the holster with my handy Dremel and some 220 grit sandpaper wrapped around a pencil.
I assume that it goes without saying but just to be safe... DO NOT DO THIS unless your holster uses the light as the retention point!! Otherwise you will permanently ruin your $200+ holster.
And now I can show the finished product in my HIGHLY PROFESSIONAL STUDIO ENVIRONMENT complete with ultra-deluxe lighting...
..just kidding I threw everything on the floor and pointed my desk lamp at it:
Grip is from Talon Grips.. it is their "pro series" I believe. The hybrid between sandpaper and rubber.
