As the title suggests, anybody regularly wearing suspenders as part of their carry attire?

While they are currently out of fashion, I've been giving a lot of thought towards dialing the way-back machine into the last century and adding suspenders. The reinforced belts are just not cutting it for me...might be time to rethink how to hold up the pants to support the weight of the pistol.

There's always the jock strap carry holster. It always gets the ladies attention.

"Is that a Glock in your pants or are you just glad to see me?"

But seriously...

I am a t-shirt and shorts guy most of the time now. This stuff is good quality and it works. Sweats or joggers in cooler weather. For conceal carry/EDC, I've found nothing better in casual wear.

Cool Fall and winter, I wear jeans and go OWB when it's appropriate.

I don't use suspenders. What issue(s) are you having with belts?

I've been using a Groove Life (Amazon.com) with the Vedder RapidTuck with compact size and 5.11 tactical Stryke shorts or pants (which have an inside button as well as a snap to keep things from popping open). The pants are great as they have elastic in the waistband for some extra give when you need it. The shorts you need to get a size or so bigger than your fit - wish they'd put elastic on them too.

Well, work attire is button up shirt, tucked into the pants. No shorts. I've got to remove the firearm before entering work (company policy) so I really am just carrying to work and after work.

After work attire is usually jeans and button up shirt.... don't wear shorts around the farm either. Around the farm I can wear a shoulder holster or carry a rifle on a sling.

The issue I'm having with belts is being tight enough to keep the holster from slowly working the pants down, yet loose enough to be able to breathe and move around. Even on the job, the pants/belt combo that works before and after end up being too lose while working (yeah, constantly having hike the pants up and re-tuck my shirt all day is a drag.) That's why I'm thinking suspenders might be a reasonable compromise. I've tried reinforced belts, but over the years they break down, and the new ones feel like I've got a hoola-hoop wrapped around the waist.

Gotcha, thanks for the additional perspective. Sounds like your bigger issue is the fact that you have to remove the firearm during the day. I have two belts with one being a little looser to accommodate the extra room needed and put the appropriate one on at the start of the day - yeah, if I wear the "gun belt" I've got pretty loose pants.

I do see some of the RSOs at the range with suspenders. Never really thought about it but makes sense that it may be for supporting the gun belt.

I googled a bit and ran across this - concealed suspenders meant to support the pants/belt to take gun weight off the waste. Wonder if it could be your answer as they are worn under the shirt, so the "fashion" aspect is not relevant.

Ive considered it, but then Id have to wear pants. Most days I dress like Hefner. Instead of bunnys pulling at my atire. I have 120lb ADHD GSD removing my garments on the front lawn.

I have a FAG Bag from the 90s I use.
Fast Action Gun bag btw.
It works well

The thing is ... people at work may secretly nickname you Mork.

I get your drift on constantly hiking up your pants. Annoying. The sad thing about men is as you age, your hair falls out, nose and ears grow, you get a bag for a belly and your ass shrinks. I've learned that if you keep your belly as flat and fit as possible, your pants wont creep down and a decent belt will work as it is supposed to. Easier said than done with anybody over 50 but it is doable. 60 setups a day and healthy eating will keep your belly tight.

Regarding gun belts... the super stiff/thick type and also the steel reinforced variety are no good for me. Can't stand them. Not to mention they look like you bought the ten dollar special at WalMart. Or resemble a duty belt, which screams "I have a gun". I also dislike the ubiquitous "Western" stitching common to some gun belts. I'm not a cowboy and there are no rodeos near me. Although I do have some very nice boots.

Maybe I'm a unique case but my job most of the time was to blend in and not look like cop. Or easily be identified as the man in charge of a security detail. Because a pro in an organized assault would shoot you first. The random wacko, no matter how nuts they are would know enough to avoid your gaze. It's always best for a violent perpetrator to be surprised when you put two rounds in his chest.

My observation over the past couple of decades is overtly tactical apparel and gear sells because it gives guys who cant get laid and certain other types of gun owners a boner. I say you don't need any of that shit. A good, comfortable leather belt with a normal buckle that's 1.5 or 1.75 inches is more than enough to support a quality holster and EDC firearm, unless you are carrying a big-ass duty weapon or five pound Desert Eagle. Then you do need a Bat-Belt.

On the subject of blue jeans, I was delighted to discover that some regular-looking jeans (not designer types) are offered in a fabric that stretches slightly. I found this to be better than upsizing your pants a couple of inches to accommodate an IWB holster. The problem with regular pants being a couple inches larger at the waist is they are falling off your ass when you have to stow the holster. So you are constantly hitching them up like grandpa.

Well, belt clip suspenders are pretty cheap, so I'll try it out. Ordered a set yesterday. Very low key, black elastic, Y back. The belts I wear at work are a pretty plain black leather, and fairly narrow (1.25" wide.) The issued work uniform kinda limits you since Cintas only made the belt loops to accommodate narrow ones. The pistol in an IWB holster is pretty light... its a Glock 33 after all, so there's not much "tactical ted" going on here. Just the issue of having the same clothes being able to work well with and without the IWB in place. I already look like the mean old dude behind the parts counter. The suspenders probably will not alter that much.

When I eventually switch to carrying the P80 Sub-Compact, the weight isn't going to be much more, so if I get used to one working solution, it should work for both carry guns. Worst case, I go back to carrying in the home-made pocket holster that fits in the A2 jacket pocket, then leave the jacket in the car at work.

I don't think additional exercise is going to do much more for me. I've already dropped 60 lbs in the past six years. Amazing what running up and down staircases and slinging Group 31 batteries around all day will do to you. You don't need a silver sneakers gym membership when you retire, just go work at a auto parts store until full Social Security kicks in.

How about a lighter pistol that won't lower the belt line? Ulticlips use a wedge lock design and they clip to any waistline behind the belt. The belt hides the clips, and a semi pulled out shirt does wonders to cover anything you may be worried about.
Check out their full lineup of clips. They have many options.

That's a lot of blubber to shed. Well done! Four bowling balls you don't have to carry around anymore.

Silver Sneakers membership? I’m not 100% sure what that is. I'm getting a visual of a bunch of blue hairs doing the Macarena in a pool. I’m not getting into a pool with kids or the elderly. They are all pissers!

I've always believed it was a blessing that men generally don't live as long as women.

Glock 33 is not huge. Since you are not apple shaped, maybe this is another option. I wear them now and then. Some dont like the tight fit. But the gun stays put and it's reasonably accessible. Undetectable under a button down shirt. If you wrestled in HS, the fit will seem familiar. Basically its a spandex t-shirt with pockets for a gun and mags. .

You mean AARP hasn't bombarded you with their advertising yet? They have been trying to get me join since I turned 55. ("Silver Sneakers" is one of their bullshit member benefits ;) )

Me, never going to join AARP... they went woke a long time ago, so I've got an ideological difference of opinion to pick with them that precludes membership.

I recall there might have been a checkbox to "stop future mailings" or maybe I called them and told them to stuff it. Either way, the mailbox is absent their junk and has been for many years...
