I got a fever... the fever for more cowbuilds! Anyone else got a fever?

Holy cow! Prayers inbound for a speedy and complete recovery! And tell your wife she's one heck of a good woman!!! You are blessed to have her!
Thanks War. Yea that woman never left through hospital. They ended up bringing her an air mattress because she refused to leave the room, and wouldn't sleep, nor eat, nor leave my side. She has ended up being much stronger than me. After about 3 weeks of me not moving, and her continually asking the staff what they were planning, they told her I probably wouldn't walk..she grabbed my legs and arms and moved them every day. She was relentless. I finally was able to move my foot slightly. Now I'm pretty much back to full mobility, %100 Thanks to her.

Yes, truly, welcome back @Viking2721 ! That sounds like a below average experience. If there is one bright spot, your wife made it abundantly clear that you are worth fighting for!

Proverbs 18:22 He who finds a wife finds a good thing
and obtains favor from the LORD.
Amen my brother...Amen!!!

She sounds like a keeper! ;) (y) My wife would be asking how soon she can pull the plug...

Glad to hear you are back from the other side. :)

Wow. Welcome back. (y) Great woman. I have learned something from your post if I ever get in a coma. Moving your legs and arms was pretty insightful of her. She never gave up and folks should never give up.

Things can go out of whack fast in life. I have been bullet proof and never ill, but back when MGB was shutting down, I went into ICU for a couple of weeks and had a couple of surgeries and 10% chance of survival. (no clot shots here) It happened so fast, I told only one person and nobody else. I didn't need the stress from others because I had plenty to do already and I didn't sleep for six days straight. But, I'm here today just like you, but nothing like what you went through with your journey.

Congrats sir. Get to building! 🔨 You got a lot of stuff to do!

Viking, that literally got me choked up. That kind of love and faith is far too rare these days.

OK... bad pun / reference to the SNL skit with Christopher Walken.

I'm starting to get the itch. Fortunately, I've got several I can choose from... and have most of the internal parts.

Now, I just have to decide which one to start! Well... I can narrow it down to the ones I have a slide for.

I'm torn. I really don't need any more P80s. I put together several of them in the past year or two. Looking for something new. Most likely 3D printed or a 1911. I've been talking about doing that for a while but have made no progress in getting started.

For sure cheaper to buy a 1911/2011 than build one but I can build a Glock based weapon way cheaper than I can buy one. Single stack 1911 has zero appeal to me.

Some say if you need more than 9, practice more :) More capacity is not a negative. It's luxury. Unless you wear a badge or serve in a combat role. If you dont, then 9 should do the trick. The average shooting incident among civilians involves two rounds.

Cheap is not my motivation to buy or build a firearm. If it were, I'd buy a HighPoint and call it a day (actually I did long ago). Butt ugly, but very reliable, accurate and a lifetime guarantee no questions asked. Hard to beat that if cheap is the goal.

Then let those that only need 9 continue to buy 1911's - free country but they are not for me. I don't want to carry three mags with me just in case. You can never have too much ammo; rather, you can run out and you are up the creek.

I can build them cheap and nice. The nicer ones I build can cost thousands in the aftermarket and may not even work as well or, at best, only work as well. I have some High-Points and I like the guns but don't like the single stack mags and yeah, they are a bit bulky. Too much time reloading at the range and too heavy but reliable and accurate for the money. It's a great first gun and one that is dependable enough to save your life when you don't want or have much to spend. With that said, if the Glock clones were readily available at the time, I wouldn't have purchased any. The Glock is a better platform and has tremendous parts availability. Then, there is the fun of shooting something you made and the process of making them is enjoyable. If they don't work right from the get-go, I have more fun solving issues than if they ran perfectly every time. Being challenged helps me learn and I can overcome pretty much every issue and help others with their builds.

In typical PGB fashion this thread has gone all over the place! 🥴

In an attempt to circle this plane back to the runway we took off from, today's action pistol match theme was "bear guns". The match director occasionally will make a class for guns that normally are at a big disadvantage to encourage people to pull guns out of the back of their safe and shoot 'em. Given a choice of a large frame Glock pattern gun I choose 10mm every time. But they would normally end up in Hi-cap with much better shooters using 9mm race guns. Today was an opportunity to shoot against other peeps with 10mm handguns. One guy let me shoot his .500 S&W before the match but he did not play with it, going with his 10mm.

My PF45 has not been the most reliable gun due to feeding issues with flat nosed 10mm cartridges. I found the solution: use an OEM Glock 20 barrel. This gun cycled perfectly through 4 stages! That barrel does not group as tightly as a fitted Bar-Sto but it more than makes up for it by offering semi-auto functionality. Yes, the cases do bulge a little, even loaded lightly as modern 10mm range ammo tends to be.

So to return to where we started, build yer PF45, @Racer88 ! This one has a gen 5 trigger group, Rook rails and will shoot flat nosed ammo with the G20 oem barrel.

Don't let the want of a copper colored barrel stop you from building it out. It would probably be a better shooter with a black factory barrel.

Bonus, building guns then shooting said guns is way more fun and rewarding than arguing about guns on the interwebs. 😜

I took my guidance from Alaskan bush pilots who went from big bore revolvers to the G20. I've carried it in a Gunfighter chest rig a number of times. Lucky for me and the grizzlies, I haven't had to use it.

Even though I live in the remote foothills in NC, I haven't seen a single bear in almost 3 years since I finished the house. They are out there but must be avoiding me. No grizzlies in these parts. Just black bears.

Western NC?

Not just a PF45 issue. I found it worse with Glock frames and aftermarket parts. The Glock barrel does work well as does the Zaffiri. The worst was a G20 TRYBE barrel, so many issues, but I got that one to work too. Among other things depending on the barrel, I've found that mirror polishing the inside of the chamber especially the top of the chamber allows the flat head 10MM to slide in and chamber correctly. It just takes the slightest bit of roughness to hang a round. Stronger RSA also helps. It doesn't take much for the alignment to be off enough to cause a failure to feed. The only thing harder than a G20 to get to work right is a G40. That long barrel can really cause some feeding issues. So much fitting involved with aftermarket parts whereas the 9mm, .40, and .45 are pretty much plug and play with whatever frame and barrel unless the barrel is just crap.

Glad you made it back from the edge. The power of prayer is an amazing thing. It also means it wasn't your time and the Big Guy still has plans for you. And it may be something as simple as telling this story so it affects the heart of someone else... 😇
And tell that wonderful woman of yours how much you love her. She obviously loves you more than the life insurance money...

Worse yet than the G40 is doing a long slide on a gen 3 G20. In addition to the other issues you also have the front of the guide rod rubbing on the edge of the yoke where the barrel rides at the nose of the slide.

Beautiful country that! (y)(y)
It is indeed. And quiet. The BR parkway isn't far but not many tourists venture off the beaten path in my direction
About 4 hours North of here.
Sometimes I feel like I'm four hours from everywhere. But that's something I have learned to live with. Sparta is the closest town. Not too far away. It's like Mayberry. Damn Yankees and young adults seeking alternative lifestyles haven't invaded like they did in and around Asheville. I bought enough land to be relatively neighbor-free no matter what happens in the future. I looked around Hendersonville and liked the area but I couldn't find a parcel that met what I was looking for. Besides acreage I wanted high ground/hilly surroundings.

Been there done many. In fact, I would rather use the G3 and modify the channel for the G40 slide. The G4 frames now up like a banana in the front because the factory took too much plastic out of the frame, see pics. You have to use a G3 to G4 adapter and often need to modify the adapter. NDZ sells a G3 to G4 RSA with the adapter permanently mounted to the RSA and it works like a charm. Ever seen a PF45 Glock 40?
