When I was a teen, I owned a white car with a black vinyl roof. The berry eating birds would shit purple on the white paint, and the rest of them would shit white on the black roof. It was my first experience with a conspiracy.

I think it has always applied. It just seems to ring true with each generation because we all tend to think only of the present rather than the past which we did not experience ourselves.

Dunno about you, but I was 7 years old when this song was released. So my exposure to it has been entirely through audio and video recordings. Contrary to popular belief, it is not a Vietnam War protest song. It was written about the curfew riots at the time in L.A.

I was three! LOL! But I think of the song in context of many events during my lifetime... but more so right now.
