NGD: buckshot delivery service

So by cover they mean sleeve ? I’m going to dismantle it tomorrow.

Mine has the factory extension. The mag tube is steel, covered by a plastic sleeve. As shown in the pic you posted. I think the reason they say it wont work is the plastic sleeve and nut hold the barrel to the receiver, thus the length and fit of the sleeve and nut is critical. It's designed for the 5 shot model. Good catch. I almost ordered it last night.

It's weird that Beretta didn't use the same length mag tube and put an extension on the 7 shot version vs. a different length mag tube.

You can replace the 7 shot model's plastic sleeve, barrel clamps, and nut with aluminum parts wither GG&G kit. No real gain other than getting rid of the plastic. Probably worth it. The plastic parts bug me. The alternative to that is the Nordic Nordic Components Nordic Beretta 1301 / A300 Patrol Kit 12 ga BR1301TAC-KIT Parts - Arnzen Arms. Looks like it works with the seven shot 1301.

Instead of adding mag capacity I think the pricey sidesaddle made for the Chisel stock is money better spent. Instead of mounting one on the receiver, which would interfere with the folding stock.

@Alex I looked for an armorers manual for the 1301 but found nothing yet.

BL, thanks for hunting for a real manual.

Seven rounds in the mag tube is enough for me, besides, that shlong on the competition model looks weird. I prefer the shlort on the tactical model. 😁 I do appreciate that Beretta gave us a full length metal mag tube under the plastic. The idea of having plastic bugged me too but now that I have had it apart I no longer care. The plastic mag tube clamp does seem like a weak point with its 2 tiny screws holding it on. With m-lok and sling cups on both sides it seems really easy to exceed the capacity of that thing. I might replace it with a metal clamp, the plastic mag tube covers can stay.

The Magpul cantilever mount and Streamlight RM2 have been the only solid thing bolted on so far. The tape switch has not always turned on the light, I have not determined if it is operator error or something to do with the switch. Supposedly the batteries get flattened from the recoil, so far it always works from the switch on the light itself. 🤔 💭

Next project is getting a quad loader on my belt and learning how to use it. I'm still awaiting mounting apparatuses for it, one of these belt setups can be more complicated than the gun itself! Having a good set of dummy rounds from B's Dummys has been helpful with learning to load and unload this thing.

It is not super intuitive to use the loading gate, see Tim Walz and his A300. Anybody remember that guy here in 2025...?

Here's an even better version of that diagram - you can order parts from it. 😎

For me, I'm happy with 7+1 or 8 (ghost loading), so I don't want to extend it any further, either. Were it not for that crummy plastic bracket I'd probably leave the OEM polymer sleeve, but since I want to upgrade the bracket, I might as well opt for the gg&g sleeve as well...but I may change my mind if I see the polymer holds up well enough with the metal bracket clamped to it. Cheers, lads!

We DO have the exploded parts view in the downloadable 'manual'. and that looks like the origin source on that chart. Thanks!

I am guilty of never reading the user manual. 😊

I ordered the Nordic kit for the 7 shot tac model. Will post pics when it arrives

"The foregrip is a real cheese grater. I will likely replace it with something else. I'm also pondering what light to put on it."

IT IS an aggressive texture. But I really love the overall fit and form of the OEM forend. If I find that checkering too much (likely so) for prolonged shooting sessions, I may get a sheet of talon grip material and custom-fit a grip section over that abrasive texture.

I'm not a rancher or a farmer. My soft hands reject sandpaper and cheese grater textures. :)

I have been very outspoken about Talon. Sticky sandpaper on my expensive guns? As the Russki's say... nyet.

The one thing that I am really anal about with guns is grip texture. Some do it really well, others not. In pistol land, I consider Walther the best and Springfield's striker handguns a close second on their outstanding grip shape and texturing.

I'm impressed with the custom stippling some do but mostly from an aesthetic point of view, not practical. Stippling to me is the same as G10. Cheese grater. Some like the feel of a rough surface. I do not. I have no problem gripping a firearm without that help.

I tend to replace the ubiquitous G10 grips on 1911s and other pistols with smooth wood or other material like bone. I have a few handguns that I left the G10 on (after a little wet sanding to knock it down) because I may have to use them wet or bleeding. Blood is very slippery. Nobody thinks this is a big deal until it happens to them. Ask me how I know.

I'm a fan of Goon Tape (alternatively, Howies Hockey tape) for guns used in pistol and long gun matches. It's awesome. When it gets funky, you take it off and there's zero residue. I keep a roll in my range bag.

I'm going to replace the factory part on the 1301 with the modified Magpul Zhukov handguard. Likely adding the GG&G heat shield. But first the Nordic mag extension upgrade. It's on its way.

Talon makes two or three grades (two of varying grit traction). The ones I use have ZERO sand/abrasiveness. Just rubber-like texture. I'm not a farmer, either. Nor a cowboy. not my bag whatsoever. Just a musician.

Anyways, the adhesive is such that while they bond excellently, they leave ZERO residue of any kind when removed. And I've removed more than one grip decal along the way. I can't speak for other brands of similar kind, but the Talon's adhesive on the grips I use leave nothing behind on the grip surface of the weapon. (fwiw) I wouldn't want any sticky crap on my guns either, or I wouldn't use it. Maybe older formulas you may have encountered differ, BL. I dunno. I honestly haven't used another brand of grip decal to compare, but I CAN attest the stuff I use has zero abrasives, and leaves no sticky residue.

And I can't bring myself to plaster velcro on the side of my 1301's receiver for shot shells....nope.

I got turned off on Talon early on. It seems they have added options and improved. The edges lifted when they got solvent on them and it was definitely sandpaper-like. This was on a Sub2000. I removed it and used Goof-Off to remove the sticky residue. Never pursued it further.

Another grip accessory I had high expectation for and ended up hating is the Pachmyer grip "rubbers" you use to cushion or fatten up a grip. Hogue sells a similar product. I carry concealed and found it too 'grabby'. It would cling to whatever you were wearing and interfere with the draw. To a lesser extent, so do overly aggressive textures on pistols.

Long guns.... a bit different. If you are shooting a lot, it tears up your support hand. I prefer a smooth hand guard, whether it be metal or plastic. I will usually put the plastic/rubber inserts on a handguard in the place where I position my left hand. Occasionally I'll observe someone at the range shooting an AR with an overabundance of rails, which also tears up the skin on your palm pretty quick.

Because I carry concealed, an aggressive pistol grip texture rubs on your skin. I haven't worn tighty whiteys or undershirts since I was ten. I'm not about to start again. :)

Yep. The rubber version is excellent.

I've been using Talon grips for a LONG time. I've never had one lift or peel. I clean the grip with alcohol first. Then I use a hair dryer to heat the grip after I apply it and the massage the SHIT out of it into every nook and cranny. I've never had to remove or replace one.

The Glock 23 has the original "granulate" (sandpaper) Talon grip - on the right in the Glock photo below. That was my first and before they offered the rubber version. All the others are the Talon rubber grips.

Nobody really likes condoms. :) I did keep some ribbed ones around just in case it was requested. To Hell with her pleasure. I turned them inside out.

I remember back in the day observing those clear, membrane covers for PC keyboards. The #1 answer why was it keeps hair and crumbs from getting in the keyboard. I don't recall hair ever causing computer failure and never ate at my desk.

Behold grip perfection: Walther (L) Echelon (R) .

lol. I do use the Hogues on our 26 clones. Not Pachmyrs. (I don’t have any pachmyr products) And I don’t carry IWB, so I’ve never experienced the rub/grabbiness you cite. And have had little to complain about in that regard. For me, they are a benefit.

I still don't wear shower curtains. Support is a wunnerful thing.

Oh and, I do have the rubber Talons on my echelon….that said I’m about to get the large grip module. I much prefer the Talon feel over the oem texture. If I was shooting Walther, I wouldn’t change them at all. That said, I may leave the new grip module as-is when I get it. We’ll see.

As they say to each his own taste. I find the texture on the Echelon, which is very similar to the Hellcat, provides just the right amount of friction without being rough. And of course the shape/contours. On the less expensive side, I'd give the PSA Dagger an honorable mention. P80... dreadful by comparison. But I don't carry them so it's not a big deal.

My first small step in a few (edit-1301) upgrades. I hate the OEM white dot that supposedly is luminous when “charged” by a bright light. Pfft that’s useless in a surprise urgent moment of need. So I got this primarily for the bright green but also the tritium. I know some of you don’t have any need of the latter.

Echelon?

No, the 1301. Echelon already has a very visible front sight. It fits the M4/1301, hence the wrench.

FWIW, Night Fission is the branding on the blade, but that company does NOT (as of yesterday, anyway) offer it. Only at Blitzkrieg that I have found.
