Harbor Freight’s TLR-1 HL Clone

OOS at my local HF (according to website). 1/3 the price of the "real thing". :)

Mine too. It says Daytona has them in stock. I have 3 of the real ones, but at that price I might just put one on everything that has a rail.

I put them on home defense guns (pistol, sub gun, PCC, shotgun) but prefer to not have a torch on a carry gun. Too bulky for concealed carry and I cant think of a likely scenario where I would need it.

Handguns packed in bugout kits have a torch. I want durability and reliability in that gear and I'm willing to pay for it.

For home defense, where the guns really don't take a beating... a lower cost light makes sense. I may run to HF tomorrow.

For me, though I’m intrigued at the value here, that sucker looks pretty wide, in contrast to say, having it mounted on my narrower Echelon. Sure would/might be good for nightstand duty, but I wouldn’t pack it for EDC either.

My HF is out of stock.

I agree with you, I cannot see the point of a light on a carry gun - even in the uncivilized north where we have fewer lights than in cities with a larger population than Montana.

Perhaps on an every night carry :ROFLMAO:

I'm kidding of course, the only place I am at night is my property and I will know if someone is on my property before they will :)

Agreed. Since I usually edc a 1911 without a rail, a Surefure G2X is in my pocket for after dark excursions.

Daytona store is 1/2hr away from me. Orange City is my "local" store. The manager used to be Tony, I think he moved to Daytona store. Was ALWAYS willing to make a deal on Open Box stuff. I got a mini-lathe for less than $300 from him. The new guy Mike is a tightwad company man.

Nightstand guns are a great place for the rail mounted light. That’s probably when you are most likely to use the light.

Port Orange is my local. I can always run to Daytona and open one up for ya. 🤔 😂 🤫

I participated in a few shoot house training sessions over the years. Two were dark. I went with the classic cop method - flashlight in my left hand at shoulder level. Most of the others in the course were cops who did the same

There is something to be said of carrying a light in this manner. Especially a duty-sized light. It makes an excellent club.

I typically don’t carry a light. Only now and then. Always a knife though. I keep flashlights next to every door and in the cars but almost never in my pocket.

As I mentioned the home defense weapons all have a light mounted. Both pistols and long guns.

I forgot to mention there’s a light on my G20 bear/hog gun. I carry it in a Gunfighter chest rig.

If I were living on a ranch someplace in the boonies and were open carrying OWB I would have no issue with a gun mounted light. If it were small.

In home defense you obviously need to see what you are shooting at. Home invasions or burglaries tend to occur at night. It's mandatory as far as I'm concerned.

Conceal carry, walking down the street gun? Bulky and serves no purpose. If you are confronted by an attacker outside the home and it is so dark and he's so far away you can't see him... then maybe you should walk away and not take the shot. Duh. A light on a conceal carry gun is an unnecessary, bulky ninja-cessory. It also slows down your draw.

I have tried a few of the smaller, more diminutive lights that clamp onto the trigger guard on a conceal carry. Useless. I took them off. Same goes for lasers. In a weak moment I am not immune from trying a gun gadget every now and then. Most of them are junk.

I am reminded of newbs who put lights on boats. Unless you are frog gigging, it has no purpose and in some of the places I boat it's illegal. If light has nothing to reflect off of, it's useless. The photons just keep going. So if you are out in the middle of a body of water and it's dark, a light is as good as tits on a bull. The exception being navigation lights. That's so others can see you and which direction you are going. Not the other way around.

I have not watched the vid yet (currently at work) but, has anyone torture tested one of these lights? I wouldn’t trust my life with a “clone” till it can prove itself as a hard use item.

Probably should watch the video when you get off or at lunch.
