230yds 6.5 Grendel dropped him where he stood. Hornady SST rds. Only 1 hole I could find ( by flash light) thinking its lodged in his neck. Its kinda crunchy.
Ill admit Buck fever grabbed me bad, heart pounding, couldnt breathe, rifle bouncing around. LMAO nice to know I still get excited hunting.
Took some does last week, not even a blink.

PS yes tennis shoes sweatpants( no pull string) and a ratty sweat shirt.

A neck shot was always my preference for whitetail with the old Model 94 in .30-30.

The drop where they stand with no adrenaline getting pumped into the meat. The neck roast gets sacrificed, but the rest of the meat is very tasty.

Mostly around here you get basket racks. 10+ points for bigger bucks. Its not all that common to get a typical this wide.

Couldnt be happier 😁😁😁😁😁

With this Grendel Ive been blowing up their hearts pretty regular. For whatever reason last 5 years 75% have been straight on, maybe slightly quartered.
The rifle is dead on to 300yds( minus 8" drop) with 200yd zero. From zero to 230yds I have +/- of 3.5". After 230 it starts dropping, havent check speed. Semiauto & 16" barrel. Its expected.
My 20" is about 6" at 300yds. Big difference.
I only fubarred 1 doe with it. Missed heart, hit shoulder and it traveled down backstrap taking out 4 ribs. Basically a slushy. Tore stomach EVERYTHING. She ended up dog food.

My 308 & 243 I like the neck shot. 308 obliterates meat and 243 not enough ass past 150yds for me anyway.

Nice buck. Antler restrictions in most of Texas require a minimum of 13" inside spread. I have a few 8 & 9 points all taken at 25-35 yards with a 44 Mag carbine.

The property is surrounded by 1000plus acres of farm land with maybe another 1000 acres of hunt property.
Basically with the farmland they kill everything ( w/ good cause) and the 1s that here are SMART.
Off season we see them some times 12plus points pushing 180lb.
We get 1 - 4 points or less or 2 over. Plus 10 does.
The #s are based on traffic accidents caused by deer. LIKE RATS in the woods.
The HEAVY brush promotes more basket weave racks.
