What the fuck were they thinking? If you're going to replace something that is PROVEN to work super-reliably...... then it's got to be measurably BETTER and measurably RELIABLE.

They fucked up big time. This is national and world security shit, folks!

Then you wonder which DEI at BUSHIPS approved it.

Probably someone who's berthing compartment had a cat
trough running thru the overhead when they were in.

..-./-/-./

Probably a pencil necked pimply faced "engineer" who graduated the week before with a degree in "Transgender Living"

Neither of those petty things... Much more likely BIG TIME pay-offs / kick-backs. Millions and millions, if not billions of dollars kicked back to the people deciding on which contractors to use.

Design change is hard.

The new syste is theoretically better, but it appears they didnt do enough testing. They will figure it out.

I an no expert on aircraft carriers but in many ways they are no different than any other advanced technology. If you stop innovating the fucking Chinese will sink every last one of them. You have to keep pushing the technology to the limits of our engineering know how. in less than 50 years, we are going to be at war with China.

Consider the German jets of the WW2 era. If they had another year or two to refine those designs, those jets would have shot every fucking allied plane out of the sky. Same goes for rockets. They were pretty close to building a V2 that could deliver a warhead to NYC or DC. The first rocket to ever enter space. What was most lacking was an understanding of guidance systems for what was basically a self propelled bomb that could hit North America from Germany. They were close to figuring that out in 1945.

Sure... but test it THOROUGHLY before we DEPLOY it.

IMHO, China... like Russia.... is a paper tiger. They are WAAAAAY behind us when it comes to military and weapons tech. It's not even close.

But what they lack in quality, they are making up for in QUANTITY! :( They are even outfitting container ships with arms... Sal is very interesting and posts just about every day, short vids many only 10min or less. This one is around 20min.

Russia I'd agree with is finished as a world power. China never takes a short term view. They are playing a long game and they know better than us when they will be ready for a fight. It isn't now. But they will get there. Armed conflict with them is inevitable. Their goal is economic and military dominance worldwide.

The Chinese are committed to making the US rot from the inside out. We are in a Cold War with them. It just hasn't been declared. The only reason diplomatic relations remain open is because they depend on trade with the US as much as we depend on them. Without US trade, their economy tanks. Which means there no money to build tanks, rockets, planes and ships. Without their consumer and industrial goods, the US has a major problem. The majority of industrial and consumer products we use come from China.

The only part I can argue with you about is about the cold war. Cold wars are not declared. Otherwise Congress would get their pantie in a wad voting on a "Cold War Powers Act" and make the President ask them to declare a cold war :ROFLMAO:

True but there militaries aren't filled with seditionist and traitors.

Speaking as one veteran (among many here)... that's bullshit.

I would hope so however you would be a fool to think the woke/foreign agents/terrorist haven't infiltrated and are attempting to actively sabotage and perhaps maybe kill their fellow soldiers once their true allegiances come to light.

Spenser Rapone got an OTH discharge in 2018 for this stunt.
He's now working on his PhD at the Univ. of Chicago
studying arab stuff.

You said the military is FULL of seditionists and traitors. To be a seditionist or traitor it would imply that person is an American (who turned against his own country). You didn't say foreign agents. And really?? FULL????

I'm no fool at all. And I'm guessing you never served. I didn't meet ANY traitors or seditionists during my time in the Navy. I was on a ship with 5000 men who were all patriots. To suggest that the military is full of traitors is an anti-American statement on your part and an insult to those who proudly served or are serving currently, like my son.

The photo you posted is a moron (not a foreign agent or terrorist) who pulled a very stupid stunt....

-------------------------------------------------
This is a well-documented image of Spenser Rapone, a former West Point cadet (class of 2016), taken during his graduation ceremony at Michie Stadium on the United States Military Academy campus in May 2016. In the photo, he's wearing the standard West Point dress gray uniform (including the white trousers and shako-style hat elements visible in the background crowd), but he's intentionally opening his tunic to reveal a red Che Guevara T-shirt underneath.

Rapone posted this photo (along with others, like one showing "Communism will win" written inside his cap) on social media in September 2017 as a form of protest/solidarity with Colin Kaepernick's anthem protests. It went viral, sparked massive controversy, led to an Army investigation for "conduct unbecoming," and ultimately resulted in his other-than-honorable discharge from the Army in 2018.
-------------------------------------------------

Good riddance to an idiot who threw his life away to make a very foolish woke statement. He's not a foreign agent. He's a liberal moron. Yes... a redundant label.

Well... his name is "Spenser." So, there ya go! I'm guessing he speaks with a lisp.

He wasted someone else's (qualified) four years at West Point. That's the real tragedy.

Sorry I didn't mean to disrespect you or true American patriots serving perhaps my statement was too callous.

The spin doctors would have everyone think it's just an economic competition. The US and China are enemies and already at war.

Nixon introduced detente, which was a diplomatic attempt to ease tensions and avoid war with the eastern bloc. The difference from then and now is the Chinese are using our money from a staggering trade imbalance to build out their military capabilities and sow chaos that undermines the US everywhere they can. The US didn't have an economic dependence on the Soviets. The Chinese have stolen intellectual property from the west on a massive scale to build arms of every type. Planes, tanks, ships... other weapons. Now they are refining them. Thinking they are never going to be good enough to win a war is a recipe for losing that war.

The Feds just busted a covert Chinese lab in the US that was cultivating plant diseases (fungus and other biologicals) that could wipe out food crops like wheat and corn on a massive scale. I call that an act of war.

There is another school of thought on China. They want to run the world... let them. It could break their back economically trying to replace the US as the policeman for the world. Reagan brilliantly helped collapse the Soviet Union by forcing them to spend money they didn't have. Capitalism is the best system for a war machine. Socialist/Communist economies have a lot of red tape and run out of money. China is never going away as a world power but forcing economic reform upon them could keep them in check.

Every society that has tried to rule the world collapsed. Empires lost. Persia, Greece, Rome, England, Vikings (Norse), Spain, France, Germany, USSR. Those are just the big ones.

Arresting gear was on Mk7. Six versions before the Nimitz class gear. However, going to 3 wires was a stupid move. With 60+ years of experience, 4 wires across the deck proved a really good number. Redundancy when one or two went down, maximum chances to get aboard with the last chance 4 wire. I have personally come aboard with only one wire across the deck because the other 3 arresting gear were down.

One thing is for sure, computer simulations of the designs and real world are two different things. I'm not sure CAD software can account for an 18yo Seaman Apprentice maintaining and operation said equipment. The money isn't there to build something land based and test it out long term so it gets built and tested on a ship in real time. The Ford has not launched 10 planes in a row into the water so it can't be that bad.

I'm not sure how factual the story I read was, but the cluster surrounding the design of the Bradley was fascinating. Engineers, technicians, and experienced soldiers and officer weighing in but being overruled by pencil necks in the DoD and Pentagon who have never seen combat.

SIG haters especially love to repeat the story about how a 'modular' design became essential to deciding what was going to replace the M9. Personally, I think that was the right decision. It's more about how the decision was made and who made it that makes it interesting.
