"Official" Thread Iran is lit - USA / Israel strike Iran 2/28/2026

Notice how quickly France and Germany declared they did not participate in the USA-Israel attack on Iran!

I just saw this quote (from years ago but still rings true), and it checks out according to a cursory Google search.

“Going to war without France is like going hunting without an accordion.”— General Norman Schwarzkopf

Let's just hope that the Iranian people do rise up and take control of the gov't.
If they don't, it's going to be just another game of whack-a-mole. Ayatollahs are a dime a dozen over there.

See, whack-a-mole...

This is a live stream based in UK where you may want to go to see various images and video clips relating to the Middle East.
Live stream right now at 12:45pm, so rewind to the start to watch it in full. The channel has many videos and updates and reports that Ali Kockamamie may be dead.

The host is Iranian and his dad resides in Iran.

Been watching Tousi for about a year now. Pretty based guy, brings the receipts, and is typically putting stuff out well before it is picked up by the rest. Maybe I will live long enough to have a pint in his yet to be built british pub in Tehran ;)

Meanwhile.... good riddance to another ayatollah. I can't believe anybody else will want the job... the new "supreme leader" must have drawn the short straw, or the only one who didn't wind up dead in the first wave of strikes. Ahem, sometimes it is good to be late to the meeting.

On a slightly sad note... Looks like none of IAF's Tomcats and Phantoms are going to survive to make it into a museum somewhere. As a propeller-head, it is painful to see bits of aviation history turned into smoking holes in the pavement, but in this case, I guess it has got to be done. Yeah, they are not a credible threat to any modern fighter... probably more of a threat to anyone trying to fly one... but still a potential threat to be eliminated. From a historical perspective, it would be fascinating to see the creative re-engineering that was applied over the last forty years that kept a few of them capable of taking off.

I'm sure we have plenty of them, eh?

Not sure on the F4's, but we shredded all but a few F14's that went to museums to prevent Iran from getting spares to keep the 79 F14A's we sold them under the Shah from being able to fly. By now, they are cannibalizing most of those to keep a few in the air.

Yeah, the risk of parts getting sold on the black market was real. It was running joke that if you attempted to buy a specific rubber seal from a company, you would get contacted by the FBI... since the part was made specifically for the Tomcat and no other aircraft uses it. The talk was always that the Iranians tried to reverse engineer most of the parts with the help of the Russians and Chinese. It would be fun to see what they actually did.

Even today if you wanted to build a copy of the F-14 flight management computer you can't do it. The IC's used to make it are simply no longer made and were specific to it. It was secret from the time it was designed, tested, and put into the Tomcat. If you want one to play with, you have to make an emulator on your own.

Oh, I don't know about that - the F14 AN/APG-71 radar along with the AIM-54 Phoenix missle were capable of targeting and destroying at 230 miles from one F-14D or 460 with two F-14D's when they were datalinked.

I cannot remember the distance they could target and engage with the earlier AN/AWG9 radar, but it was still a long distance.

All we needed was a Department of War and a President who was willing to take advantage of the capabilities.
