Honestly, I didn't think Motorola was still around. My first cell phone was a Motorola... Startac, I think it was called.

The Motorola StarTac to this DAY is still my favorite cellphone. Bar-none. Mine was knocked off my waist holster by a huge Boxer pup on my routes who playfully jumped on me with paws the size of baseball mitts and the phone went flying across the patio and was ruined after that. (Cue TAPS)

Motorolas product was absolutely rock-solid - even those bigger, older units in the 90's...Blackberry is still my favorite smartphone (8700g) as far as security and functionality, though it needed a bigger screen. But that keyboard I could fly on.

Ok, how about this Mr iPhone doesn’t limit me. Try connecting to a Samsung product. Samsung connects beautifully with whatever device. Apple, not so much.

This thread was all about moving into a new cellphone. But it’s been turned into a justifying Android thread. So typical. If you’d care to look in my OP I said NOTHING about Android. Then the Android justification started. You can’t help yourselves.

FWIW I did around 5 consecutive android upgrades before moving to iPhone originally: and none of them were any more pleasant or less time consuming, than this one (other last one) for iPhone.

Without the lengthy feature rebuttals, I’m doing just fine with iPhone. Does all I need it to do. Like I said- forget winning me over…and as this is not a cell war or debate. Like what you like. Fine. Great. I’m done here.

Android sucks ass.

There. I have said it.

I have a MacBook, two iPads and an iMac along with my iPhone, which I usually upgrade every other model release or so. My current phone is a 15 Pro Max. I'm waiting for the 18 to upgrade. My wife has a 16.

Apple is in no way perfect but it beats the shit out of trying to keep your phone, computers and tablets in sync. All of your info is accessible seamlessly from any Apple device. I can start something on my phone, edit it with the iPad and finish it on my desktop IMac. No problems, no fucking around.

Windows also sucks ass. It hasnt really improved in ten years. Office is bloated and buggy. Microsoft is done. Nobody cares about desktop operating systems anymore. Even they know it. That's why they are spending a fortune on data canters and becoming an "AI" provider. As are Google, Amazon, and other major players.

I am really not a clueless Apple fanboy. I just like shit that works. I am not going to spend a minute of my day fucking around with a phone or computer just to make it work as promised. As someone once told me, Seek tools you can work with - not work on.

Ok, I'll bite. Every negative that everyone keeps giving about Android is basically talking about Android from 10-15 years ago. Every Android/ Windows device integrates seamlessly. Plus, unlike Apple, they work with just about any brand of auxiliary device instead of only working with one single brand. It seems like every Apple adherent I meet ends up coming off like an Apple cultist proselytizing a religion they just converted to. It's almost as bad as people that do CrossFit or vegans. It's amazing how many Apple guys, out of the blue, will make snarky comments about your phone as soon as they see that it's not an apple. I'm not trying to convince anybody to change what phone they use. If you like what you have, that's fine with me. I like what I have, but I don't feel the need to carry water for the brand like I'm on their payroll.

I am really not a clueless Apple fanboy. I just like shit that works. I am not going to spend a minute of my day fucking around with a phone or computer just to make it work as promised. As someone once told me, Seek tools you can work with - not work on.

My first computer was a "Classic II" (I think). the cute little box with the little screen. College bookstore had a "deal" on them with easy financing. I pretty much used it as a word processor with a little desktop publishing. It beat having to sit in the computer lab typing up papers. I still had to go there to print until I could afford a cheapie inkjet which was slow as molasses.

I've been in the ATT store getting a new SIM card and have looked at the "new" phones, both Andy and Appy. I've listened to the schpeel and all the features of both. And the trade-in/upgrade "deals". Aside from camera/video upgrades, there is nothing to the new phones that excites me the least bit. Fuck AI and Fuck Face-time...

A lot of the cool kids use Iphones and I think that is a lot of the draw to them. Who wants to be the one wearing Toughskins when everyone else is wearing Levis? AFAIAC, either one would work for my uses but do I want to pay the premium for the Apple? Probably, because I can't stand the new Androids with the volume button on the right side. That is a deal-breaker.

Other than the buttons, another issue I know I would have is having to rid the Android of bloatware. I know with the old S9, all that shit is long since off and NEVER bothers me. I keep location and data (mobile AND wifi) OFF. My battery still lasts at least 3 days before I have to think of charging it. I have maybe 1-1/2 pages of apps and that's IT. Phone, text, camera/video, mp3 player, credit card processing, GPS, tethered modem (for shop computer), calc/conversion, clock/calendar and probably some others I haven't used in a while like Torque (for OBD2 dongle). It is a tool that 30 years ago was a novelty that I never imagined could do what it does now...

Samsung has done a respectable job but has modified Android to the point it barely resembles any other Android phone out there.

Even so, nobody has unified mobile phones, tablets, notebooks computers, smart watches, and desktop computers as Apple has. Nobody. It's not even close. All of those devices can share the same data. Also use the same apps. The productivity apps that come on the phone for free are also on every other Apple device. Start writing the Great American Novel sitting on a park bench with your phone, proof read it on your iPad and finish it on your MacBook on your kitchen table that evening. You dont have to know or do anything.

Write yourself a note or grocery list on your iMac and magically its on your phone while you walk around the store. You had to do nothing to make that work.

Everything you create is automatically backed up to the cloud. You don't have to do anything. You can choose to encrypt all of it. Nobody can read it but you. Including Apple.

Your contacts are shared across all devices and they stay in sync. As are messaging and texts. You can make a phone call or send a text to any of your contacts from any Apple device. Including Apple Watch and you dont need to have your mobile phone within bluetooth range to do that.

Features and functionality, obviously I am sold on Apple but there is another reason:

Apple is a hardware company. That's their revenue model. Their approach to privacy is very different than Google.

Google is an advertising company. Their revenue model is looking up your ass with a microscope then selling everything they find out about you to the highest bidder. That includes the Government. There's a reason why Google's jets can land at Andrews AFB. Had the technology existed in his time, Stalin would have paid any amount to know what Google knows about every one of us.

Where you go
Who you know
Where you eat
What you buy
Who your friends are
What you say to friends and what they say to you (gmail is scanned)
How you get around (driving, walking, flying, rail)
What you read online

All of this is essential to Google's business model. Not so with Apple.

Cost... Apple loses in that department. One great thing about Android phones is they make a great burner phones that you dont have to sell a kidney to buy. Use once and toss.

Yes and yes. You don’t have to put anything in icloud. I had a gazillion cd‘s I ripped to my phone. I did put them in my music library so I can listen on any device I choose.

when I traveled internationally on long flights I’d put movies on my iPad so I wasn’t stuck with the airlines choices.

I got iPhone why : cuz my hubby got me one after my Chevy ran outta gas (fuel gage broke) on the freeway and I was stuck on the side of the street. Had to traverse down off ramp to find a phone. He of course came to my rescue - that was 6 yrs ago.

I just got a new phone because it was slow as hell. iPhone pushes updates that clog up the works eventually there’s no more room so either start off loading or get a new phone. I don’t have a clue how to work android I barely am able to use the phone- I still have problems figuring out how to answer the dang phone when it rings.

See, I had the reverse happen right here. Mentioned I got an iPhone in my OP and the chit and insults started flying, even after I clearly stated my post was not to create s iPhone/vs Android war... Again I don't care if anybody else buys Android. My son has one and loves it. I had 4-5 consecutive ones and they didn't cut the mustard at all. And while my first iPhone (8+) left a lot to be desired, I like it better than my former Androids, pre-2019. The 13 ProMax was better, but the 17 Pm we have now is a whole other level.

IMO BL hit the nail on the head of Apple VS Google as far as companies. While Apple has their own funk and I have no blinders on, I truly consider them the lesser of two evils, 'and they just work' nuff said.
