Here's an old photopostcard from the Pilot Knob Hotel in Yuma, Arizona in the early 20th Century. In the old days you had to cross the Colorado River by ferry, which probably explains the name of the hotel.
(Me thinks that's the sanitized version for the history books. Could it have been a place where early 20th Century Air Mail pilots stopped to refuel...and get their knob serviced, and the name was the under the radar advertising? )
