I tried signing up for arfcom a LONG time ago. Could never get the email verification part to work so I gave up on it taking it a clue of how reliable the website/it's admin are.

Edit, just tried again, on a whim, and really... who doesnt accept a yahoo email nowadays

A long time ago, I tried to join that forum. They rejected me based on my chosen screen name.... Racer88.

Why???? They INSISTED it was a Nazi thing. I kid you not.

I explained to them that I raced cars, and my car is #88.... and that my family heritage is Jewish, sooooooooo.... Probably not a "Nazi" thing, eh? They insisted that the number "88" is Nazi.

I explained that I chose that car #, because the year 1988 was significant to me. Plus, the number 8 is considered lucky in some cultures, so I figured I could use two "8s" on my car when driving at triple-digit speeds. And nobody else had that car #.

Nope! Change your screen name, or you can't join! OK.... I think I've heard enough insanity and don't want to join at this point. That exchange was 100% real. And that was that.

Wow... sir, I understand it's a little off topic, so msg me if needed, but Im very interested in ww2 history and all, but never heard of 88 being a nazi thing. Would you please educate me.

I had to ask, of course.

So, apparently... according to folks who are oddly obsessed with this stuff to the point of executing amazing mental gymnastics... The 8th letter in the alphabet is "H." So, 88 = HH, which OBVIOUSLY means "heil hitler."

If you think about it, making such exceptions among normal society VALIDATES the affectations of the sociopaths.

I've been around a LOT of Jewish people. I promise the number "88" does not have any effect. You see... because the number 88 actually doesn't mean ANYTHING other than "eighty-eight!" It means something else ONLY to idiots. So, whoever complies with such idiotic definitions and restrictions... is one of them.

I would question the moral character of anyone who casually KNOWS about this. Seriously. Why would a normal person (who wouldn't ordinarily have contact with such people) KNOW this??? And why would they BELIEVE it or adjust their behavior according to such "rules?"

To me it's the same thing as the fictitious extra "pronouns." I will not abide compelled (or prohibited) speech. The ONLY thing that matters is INTENT.

How bout we examine this from a positive aspect...

In Hebrew, numbers have symbolic meaning.

For instance, 7 is the number of completion. When you make it 77, that means complete or endless completion.

8 means transcendence or new beginning.

Circumcision takes place on the 8th day after birth. (Celebrating a new life)
There were 8 people on Noah's Ark saved from the flood. (A new era in human existence)
The Feast of the Tabernacles has an 8th day, symbolizing a new era.

So, 88 means an intensified new beginning.

Seems like an appropriate fit for this place, eh? ;)

I believe that in Chinese culture, 8s are lucky, and 4s are unlucky. I think I got that right. In any case your examples and mine are at least positive or even benign (like "unlucky" 4s).

But to suggest that someone who uses "88" is a Nazi.... is just insane. Wasn't that Dale Earnhardt Jr's NASCAR number, too? I'm not a NASCAR fan, but I think that was his number.

I’m white, bald, Cathlish ( mom Catholic / dad Jewish) 88 is one of my favorite numbers as it’s the year I graduated high school. Not a skinhead and haven’t been on arfcom since about 2001. My screen name would have been notshawn88 if it had been available many moons ago when I set up my first email account. 54 is just random. People need to buck up and grow thicker skin. It’s just fucking numbers. Hell I could take any numbers and come up with some convoluted shit.
 
About 7 or 8 years ago I got called to my son’s middle school because he gave an “ok” sign. Well some thin skinned little black girl complained because apparently and I use that term loosely, that now means “white power”. I got to the school and basically told the principal to shove it up his ass and to teach the kids not to be such pussies and thanks for wasting my time. If people get so offended by a gesture that has been universally accepted for hundreds of years, that’s their problem not mine or my son’s.
