I have a plate that is about 90 yards from my back porch. From that point there's a steep rock bluff so I cant shoot any further. Some scattered trees but a clear shot to the plate. I put close to 80 rounds thru this mofo and it performed well. I attached an EO Tech Vudu (not shown). It's good quality scope, unique in being short in length. I thought it was a good pairing since this is fundamentally a short/medium range tactical weapon. Even though the 308 is more capable and predictable out to 800-1000 yards.

Kel-Tec refers to this as the 'hunter' model because it has a 24 inch barrel as opposed to the 18 inch. Hunting what is the question. This is clearly designed as an anti-personnel weapon, not really suited for hunting deer or whatever. Maybe hogs. I am tempted to see how it does in that situation.

It weighs about 9 lbs. , uses FAL mags. NATO/308. I shot a grab bag of 308 I had sitting around.

I zeroed the scope at 25 yards and after a couple of initial flyers I was consistently ringing the 10 inch gong on every shot. I haven't shot this gun in two years or more. I was happy with the results. I was hitting a bit high and left but there was some wind. Still good.

I got to handle one at SHOT show when it was a just rumored to exist. George Kellgren himself handed it to me. Nice guy, doesn't talk much. The FN-FAL was all the rage at the time he designed it. Mags were available by the millions and cost $3 for brand new mags still in the wrapper.

I have an FAL mag and that is usually all the justification I need to add something to my collection.

Damn.. thats a Kel-Tec... interesting... I didnt know they made a nything like this. So what made you decide to pull it out
Random act. Just felt like it.

The story behind this gun is it was hanging on the wall in a small gun shop in Burlington, WA. I was living in the San Juan islands while recuperating. A friend loaned me his cottage, which included a dock and his 21 foot power boat. He was in Norway for a couple of years and couldn't use it. So I was kind of a caretaker for the place and the boat. It worked out for both of us.

I visited that LGS in Burlington a bunch of times but couldn't buy any guns because I didn't have a WA drivers license and my home was temporary. The guy at the shop told me nobody would even ask to see this gun. So there it hung for months. Like a dog at the shelter that nobody wants.

I had to go back to DC to check in with my section chief and get checked out by a doc and also the government shrink (mandatory) to determine my fitness for returning to duty. So before I leave, I find myself in this LGS and make a crazy lowball offer. He takes it. I had him ship the gun to an FFL near my 'official' residence in Maryland. I was granted another six months to shit or get off the pot and return to work. So when I headed back to WA, I checked the gun as luggage.

I had nowhere to shoot it since there were no decent public rifle ranges in the San Juans. So one day I get in the boat and go out into the Puget Sound miles from anybody and start putting a few rounds thru it so I can gain some familiarity with the weird bull pup design. I also hadn't touched any gun for months, other than an old shotgun the owner of the cottage kept there.

I was shooting into an uninhabited, tiny island of rocks that was really close to the Canadian border. In fact, I was probably in Canada. The giveaway was I can see an RCMP boat heading toward me in the distance. So I got out of there, heading back home, expecting US Customs to pick me up, but luckily encountered nobody on the US side.

I have only shot this rifle maybe eight or ten times. I've kept it mainly because it's such an oddball design. Once you acclimate to the balance of the gun and how it works, it shoots really well. Some may notice the unusual flash hider on the barrel. I shot 308 subsonic ammo with a can and it performed flawlessly. That can is retired now due to a baffle strike. It didnt happen on this rifle.

I didn't know about this Kel-Tec. Very cool. They make some interesting stuff.

My only Kel-Tec so far (9mm):

I wish there was a way to run an optic and still maintain the compact folded feature.
The rotating hand guard that Red Lion sells is pretty cool. I have one of those. On another, I have the flippy m-Carbo thing . Both work fine. The newest Sub 2000's come with a rotating hand guard.

I did look at the Red Lion gizmo a while back. The flippy transformer-inspired mCarbo thing is cool, but it increases the thickness of the folded rifle... a lot. So, it detracts from the compactness when folded.... and would be a tight fit in a case.

I may have to revisit the Red Lion rotating hand guard.

Small shop in PA. The owner is a good guy. Very helpful, responsive to questions. All of his stuff is very well made.
