CZ P-01? Any love for CZ?

Well, there you go. Get her the standard P-01. They are plentiful and, I’m sure, a fantastic gun. IMHO, beyond the custom Glock clones, CZ is the best gun value out there.

I've said it many times before and I'll say it again. If CZ had the aftermarket support of Glock, I would own zero Glock based guns. I feel their base platform is much better with the option to do more, but the support provided by their aftermarket is very expensive and nowhere near as prevalent.
 
I think it's great your daughter wants a metal gun that's hammer fired. Cocked and locked is how that gun is supposed to be carried. Of course you can carry it hammer down but that's a long, heavy pull.

Is this going to be a range gun or EDC? A metal handgun is a heavy carry and hard to conceal for a petite girl who wears what most young women wear. The CZ is 28 oz. A good quality compact striker gun is going to be around a half pound lighter. Somewhere in that ballpark.

Unless she wears Dad pants with a 1-3/4 belt every day (which I doubt) I'd consider lighter.

You mentioned once she's artistic. Not a surprise she's drawn to the CZ. It's a beautiful gun. But is it the right gun for her EDC.

That was one of the first things we tried with the gun... the double-action pull. She was able to do it no problem with this gun. Other guns, not so much.

I like that it has a decocker, as I believe she'd have trouble safely decocking the way you and I would do it manually on a gun without a decocker.

She won't be carrying it. We're not "there," yet. She's not even legal to carry concealed, yet. She's 20. When that time comes, we'll likely get a different pistol, and she'll be more experienced as a pistol shooter.

It's interesting how some folks will "fit" with one particular gun over all the others.

My problem is that I fit with ALL guns! I haven't found one I can't shoot! Well, maybe that .45-70 lever-action of yours! ;)

There are not many in which I turn my nose. Even the ones I don’t fancy, I see what it could be and not necessarily what it is.

There is one pistol, the first time I picked it up, I said to myself hell fucking yes, this is the one. A CZ 75 variant. I ended up with a 40P over a 9mm because I was all into .40 cal at the time. Same frame. I still have it and will never let it go.

The 1911 is a favorite, it was my first. It's always like coming home. Glock and polymer anything is just a tool to me. They get the job done. More practical for concealed carry. 80% have been fun. I've learned a lot about how these operate but they have been like going on a date with a hot red head. Fun times but I know it isn't long term because they are crazy and unstable. Revolvers and single action are fun to play with but not my favorite.

Back to the CZ. I had some resized empty brass. With the slide locked back on the CZ and a mag in the pistol, it always looked like the round was pointed straight at the chamber. I never really saw any brass marks on the feed ramp after shooting. I loaded a mag full of empty resized brass to see if it would feed. Round after round of just the brass, no bullet, fed flawlessly in my CZ. Try that on any other pistol. In the 20+ years I've had the CZ it has never had a failure to feed. Factory ammo and reloaded ammo.

Excellent choice for a first pistol. I wouldn't modify a thing on it.

Sigs are not everybody's cup of tea. They have a fierce following though. Just as much in love as Glockers.

I'm with racer. I like them all. Guns and women have been my only vices. I gave up one because when I get old guns wont change my diapers.
 
While here, don't forget about the iwi improved Jericho.
Striker, Masada or masada slim.
 
Ok here’s another option:

I’ve zero experience with the 92 platform, but this unit seems to tick all the boxes for me and seems to be well implemented and well-liked. Hmm.
 
Got a problem, though. The rear sight is off to one side. I'm trying to center it. But the hex wrench that came with the gun is too small and slips. I was afraid I stripped the head with the manufacturer's wrench.

I looked up the size (online). It's 1/16th. My Brownell's Magna-Tip set to the rescue! The Brownell's bit fit perfectly, and I was able to loosen the screw.

OK... next problem! The freakin' rear sight WILL NOT BUDGE. I've tried to tap with with a brass punch and mallet. I've even tried my big-ass Real Avid sight adjusting tool. No dice! It's not moving... and I need to move it! It's about a full millimeter and a half off center (to the left). I don't want us to be shooting left at the first range date.

Any ideas?
