For the follower of Christ, forgiveness does not require forgetting what was done to us. It is surrendering our claim for vengeance and leaving it in His hands.
Romans 12:19 — Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord."
That is one of the most freeing things about the gospel.
Better than a life coach. 
But we have to be willing to accept that we might have to wait till the afterlife to find out if God took vengance on that person, or if they repented and were forgiven. That person might have been forgiven by the Lord but he or she will still have to give an account for all their actions while here on earth, as will I. Very humbling.
