Exercising the Gen3 G30 during Action Pistol...
It had been at least a year since I fired the G30. I bought it new probably 15yrs ago?
I doubt it has over 1000rds through it...
The tritiums are dead but sights are aligned still. New sights are on "the list". The monthly "Action Pistol" at my range is a good time to "test" guns and this month was the 30.
Figuring it had been over 5yrs (maybe never
), I gave the 30 a complete frame and slide strip-down and inspection. I put a few accessories in when I got it, and that was probably the LAST time it had been apart. "Goodies" included a smooth-face trigger shoe (it had ribbed) and matching bar, "target" connector ("-" sign on it) and maybe spring? Trigger breaks at about 4lbs. Ext. slide lock and mag rel but I put the OEM mag rel back on as the ext was too long for my liking. These are all Glock parts if you want to look at part numbers.
One thing that had been keeping me from bringing the 30 to the AP was the lack of an OWB holster. Last year, I picked up this Glock "sport" holster and pouches from a local seller for $10 "like new" in opened packaging.
Turns out we knew each other from club volleyball (my dot, his g-dot) and we chatted for about a 1/2 hour on all manner of subjects.
Anyhow, the holster needed a little relieving for the mag and slide releases. I also did a little heat gun massaging but it was 1am before the match and time for bed so I couldn't get it "perfect". The gun is still a little too "snug" in the holster for my liking but that is easy enough to fix later... The loader came with the 30 from Glock.
Here is the 30 after the match. Burned about 100rds of 230 ball. Gun shot well and accurately. The only issue is the mags are still "new" and take force to seat in the magwell when full (10rds). A workaround was just locking the slide open, insert mag, slingshot closed. Gave it a wipe and put back in the case with the mags (one is a 13rd G21 with spacer). The others have Scherer pinky extensions.
Action Pistol this month was 3 stages with one of them a moving target.
Stage 1 was the plates shown with a round "hidden" behind the squares so you'd have to side step to be able to engage it. 2 on the squares, 1 on the rounds. With the RH pair of targets, everyone was hitting the right silhoutte in the left shoulder when going for the round plate.
I had no such problems and hit it one shot every time.
Stage 2 was a "quick" stage with runs completed with both, then strong and not-so-strong hands. As with stage 1, the timer was in use but I don't remember my times but they were acceptable and among some of the better times in the group.
Stage 3 was a moving stage with 2 shooters at a time and 2 others pulling the ropes--1 for each direction. There are "doorways" the dummy passes by. One of the guys brought the dummy dolly last time and we fooled with it in one direction only. Meanwhile he rigged another pulley and brought another rope so it can be pulled back and forth. Those are corner stakes with pulleys mounted to them. The rig worked good and is fun way to waste ammo
But there needs to be a better way to see if you are making hits on it. I think we might mount a plate on the dolly next month. Of note is that no rope or tires were harmed by spalling.

After about an hour, we take the opportunity to take a break and go "hot for handling" and can switch out pistols if desired. No one is forward of the benches at this time. I switched to the Macatto and was having problems with failures to extract, much to my dismay...
I mean, the gun ran OK, but had an occasional hiccup here and there. Just one MORE thing that needs fixin'...
