350 million, that they know about! ;)
They know about FAR more than that. It's easily closer to 800 million or 1 billion.

We'll hit 500 million background checks (NICS checks since 1998) by the end of this year. So, while NICS checks are not a direct correlation to the number of guns sold, it's a good indicator. Yes, I know that some background checks are not for a gun sale. But I also know that some background checks are for multiple guns. So, I'm going to assume approximately 500 million guns SINCE 1998.
But let's say that it's only been 300 million guns sold since 1998.

The oft-repeated "350 - 400 million" guns would have to assume there were fifty to only 100 million guns BEFORE 1998. Of course that's not true. And as we know, guns are a durable good. There are a lot of 100-year-old guns out there in perfect working condition. They last a long time and don't get thrown in the garbage.

It's also worth noting that there have been over 1 million guns sold PER MONTH for the past 62 consecutive months.

I'm trading all my pistols in and getting a .32ACP! We've been doing it ALL WRONG! ;) 9mm is even LESS singularly lethal than .25ACP! :D

Take into consideration how the first 3 are usually used. Probably contact close behind the ear.
