I'm sure most have heard. Dude on a nearby rooftop shot at an ICE van (with detainees) inside the "sally port." While apparently an "anti-ICE" attacker, he ended up shooting 3 detainees, killing at least one of them.

It seems the evil AR-15 (.223 / 5.56) is falling out of favor. These guys are using larger caliber rifles. Apparently this one uses clips. Maybe an M1 Garand? And I'm guessing that's .30-06 ammo? Someone here will know.

It looks ought-six-ish? Maybe 8mm? Both K98 Mauser and 1903 Springfield mags were charged with stripper clips...

PS: rando internet pic of 8mm

Without any scale, it's hard to say what caliber it is. Being on stripper clips does necessarily mean it's a clip fed rifle.

I'm not sure how they do it today, but 50 years ago, when I was in the Army, all of our 5.56 ammo came on stripper clips.

Not M1 Garand. The clip for the M1 is an 8 round en-bloc clip.

Ammo for the 1903 Springfield was loaded onto 5 round stripper clips. This clip was a German invention, and the US had to pay Germany a royalty for every clip made.

The US made stripper clips in WW1 were made from brass. By WW2, the clips were made from steel.
US clips had two "bumps" on the edge of the clip to prevent over insertion into the receiver. The German clips had 3 bumps.
The neck on the 30-06 case is also longer than the 8mm.

In the pic of the shooters ammo, it appears there are only 2 bumps on the clip, and it is brass, but they are not in the same place as on the Springfield clips. The necks also look to be more like 8mm.

With no more to go on, I'm guessing eastern European surplus 8mm.

You can thank the Dems for inciting, quite clearly, all this violence. Hang it around their necks where it belongs, and arrest those so guilty of doing so. There have been quite a few in public office that have BLATANTLY done so. pukes.

Cue the calls to ban sniper rifles in 3...2...1

I've been predicting this for several years.

"Sniper rifles" will replace "assault weapons" while being equally nebulous definitionally.

Well of course. They need something new and minty-fresh in weapons to demonize instead of perps and their criminal behavior. Like another military type surplus weapon. Watch for them to try and ban those…

I won't disagree with where you see it heading though I am struggling to figure out how they'll brand "sniper rifle" as far as photos - nothing more than a bolt action hunting rifle. "Assault rifle" on the other hand is easy for them to depict as it is a semi-auto AR15 which on the outside looks like a "scary" M16/M4. Maybe it doesn't matter - they can just push the "sniper rifle" term and behind the scenes it is just a puch for any rifle which is party of the goal anyway?!

I made this meme years ago:

Hint: It's the one on top (Remington M40 in use since 1966).

(Actually, I just found out it was replaced in 2018 by the Accuracy International MK13 Mod-7.)

Where I'm at just about every family has a scoped bolt action hunting rifle. The vast majority of the less expensive ones are Dad's or Granddad's surplus WW? rifle. I know a few people who have mausers rechambered from 8mm mauser to 8mm-06 so they could use cheap 30-06 brass and others rebarreled to .270, 25-06, .308, .243 blah, blah, blah. For the majority of them, the stripper clip charger is still there but you'd have to pull the scope to use it.

Good luck banning them. (It does make a good talking/whining point though).

One man's hunting rifle is another man's sniper rifle.
