I would like to build a nuclear submarine that is superior to the current state of the art. I wonder if any of the former Navy members here might be able to recommend what books to read and help guide me thru the steps I need to take to start construction.

Any guidance in where I can find uranium would also be helpful.

I'll ask my cousin Biff!

By my calculations the reactor needs to generate at least 4 jiggawatts!
That'll be just enough to keep it from burning a hole in itself and falling out the bottom of your submarine.

You'll need a bucket brigade to help keep the U cool...

Not sure any of us wants to be the next Harold Adrian Russel Philby
Nice try though 🤣🤣

Always remember your sub does NOT come with a screen door.

Speaking of that the latest newbie that inspired this thread doesn't pass my sniff test.

Clear aluminum would be a bold upgrade. Especially if you can get Wonder Woman to pilot it. In her bikini of course.

A clear hull could be a money maker running tours in between other runs, whatever they involve.

It's now possible to make it. Aluminium oxynitride. Technically, it's a transparent ceramic but it is made with aluminum. It's become all the rage in bulletproof glass. It's still hyper expensive to produce, but that will get figured out eventually.

I took a ride in one of those small subs with windows and a big, transparent bubble. I must admit it was an interesting and strange experience driving around underwater with the fishes and other ocean critters. Very different experience from scuba, which I have only done done a few times - after getting some incredibly short and inadequate training in a swimming pool.

In the spirit of the other thread, why are you injecting logic, practicality and reason into the discussion. You are wasting valuable time that could be better spent chasing unicorns and fairy farts.

Focus on the dream of seeing under water except the entire hull is clear not just a bubble. Way cooler.

I am secretly working on a transparent handgun. Not just the frame. Ammo too. Don’t tell anybody.

The bad guy will laugh when I point this at him.

Then, BANG BANG! Imagine his surprise when two invisible bullets go into his sternum.
