At one time I would carry a Taser. Never had to use it, but you never know. All this talk about drop testing got me thinking. How do I know my Taser is safe? Or that it will work? Answer: Invite friends and neighbors over for a Taser party. Something like this:

Better safe than sorry.

I'm gonna pass! On being a test subject... Or carrying one.
In some places, I was required to carry non-lethal devices only. Taser or stun gun. I cheated and also had a Marine-style KA-BAR whenever possible. Bringing a knife to a gunfight probably would not have ended well but like a gun, the knife you have is better than the knife you don't have.

The Taser is reasonably effective at short distances but the margin for error is pretty high and thick clothing is of course sometimes a problem. The stun doesn't last long either. That was acceptable because the mission wasn't to fight it out, it was to get the individual being protected to safety as quickly as possible. The Taser buys a minute or two. Sometimes longer.

I did get training and volunteered to take one for the team. Not a pleasant experience. It does immobilize. I saw big, strong dudes spontaneously scream like little girls. It just comes out. Actually kind of entertaining because everyone watching laughs.

Just be sure to provide Taco Bell before the party... :devilish:

PS: I was at an auction and they had a cattle prod up for bid. Non-functional--probably needed batteries. The kid helping out with the auction wanted it so I didn't bid against him but sometimes wished I did... :devilish: For scientific evaluation, of course... ;)

Problem with a fazer/tazer is the false sense of security and the really really really close distances required.
You know the itty bitty “self defense” sprays with about 0.5 PSI of pressure.
The gunshow special 50,000V crackle and pop for $19.99…..smh
Requires less then arms length. Try that with a bad dude with a knife.
Those keychain thingamajiggies? You actually still have to be able to punch and punch hard.
Unless it’s a 10’ accurate sure as shit drop ‘m where they stand shit their pants kinda taser.
I’ll take two of those, with rapid reloads.

Agree 100%. Those "self-defense" baubles are nothing more than a talisman for people who want to fool themselves about being "prepared."

And that "crackling" noise at gun shows is really ANNOYING!

The Kimber pepper pistol. Actually pretty good. I gave my wife a couple of them. I also showed her how to use it with the inert version. It's very effective within 10-15 feet. You also get two shots. Not one and empty. Kimber America | Kimber PepperBlaster II

Watch Hanna Barron demo.

Cute as a button - as my mother used to say.

The cheap shit... like you said. It's a waste of money and a false sense of security.

I thought I recognized her... :) Usually she is up to her neck in muddy water and the arm bruising gave it away... :D

I've been tempted to get some "pepper" balls for my paint markers. They are pricey, though! I DO have some plastic "riot" balls. :devilish: Of course I also have 1000s of regular paint balls. I have a full-auto trigger on one gun. ;)

A side-benefit is I also have a Hobart adapter to use the paint ball CO2 cans with my MM140 MIG welder. This allows me to be able to weld remotely without having to lug a gas cylinder around although the MM is an older, heavy bitch. The cans are filled with liquid CO2 and I fill my own with a CO2 cylinder with dip tube so it draws off the bottom (liquid). I can get the cans around 80% full and they are filled by weight, not volume.

I wonder why LEOs don't use paint markers for peaceful protest (ie: riot) control? They would be marking the miscreants for future arrest. Plus they hurt like hell and would be a wonderful deterrent! :D

Many years ago I'm working in a shipyard and after work one Friday afternoon, I was "ordered" to go to a local VFW-ish bar (Portuguese-American Club) for cheap beers with some foremen and co-workers. I don't generally enjoy getting drunk (even slightly) right after work (and I didn't) but this was sort of a male-bonding event. ;)

On the bar is a jar of jalapenos each about 2" long. A foreman for another crew, and a hardass, gives me a jalapeno "Here, eat this!". I had honestly never eaten a jalapeno so I took a nibble and couldn't help but make a twisted, contorted face! 😬 "You Pussy! Gimme that!" and he grabs it from my hand, snaps it in half and snorts each half up each nostril, seeds and all! Now it was him making the face, sneezing uncontrollably, and puking up the four beers he just drank! 🤮 After the initial shock of watching what he just did, we all laughed our asses off! :D

I'm with you. If you are drawing a weapon of any sort, it needs to be able to put a definitive end to the confrontation with you still breathing.

Southern girls, Bojangles and gallons of sweet Ice tea.
None of them good for you but boy oh boy….
I know what you mean. Here's the problem. Besides being devilishly handsome, I was one of those boys who never did what his Momma said. That doesn't square at all with Southern women. First hand experience.
